  1. 300 FORD? Wash your mouth out with SOAP.:mad:
I know where there is a nice straight eight BUICK engine!

  2. Yes the Camaro rear 70 -81 will work. I just put a 8.8 Explorer rear in my 50. Had one as a tripping hazard. Ant it fit fine. Was looking for a 428 455 or a Sprint 6 for mine. Went different route.
Chieftans were Deluxe models with side trim and carpets. Streamliners usually were stripper models with rubber mats and no side trim. All came with hood waterfall and trunk trim.

I have a 51 Pontiac Chieftain with a 350/350 in it. When i bought the car it had the stock rear end and the gears were not highway friendly. 3.60s if i recall. I wound up putting a 79 camaro rear end in it because someone said it would work or they had done it before, blah blah. It works, but its a little too wide. I had to have custom backspaced steel wheels made and it is still too close to run skirts. But it's been on the road and all over hell for the last 13 years like that and the 2.73s are very happy to cruise along at 75 mph. If i were to do it again i'd look for one slightly narrower like a 69 camaro instead. Feel free to PM with any specific questions. I've forgotten most of what's been done to that old car. I love it. It can sit for 5 months, pump it twice, fire it up and drive it across Texas.

I forgot i had this old slide show. Since then, the vintage air has been in there for the last 10 years, the rear end was swapped, and i scored lots of stock chrome for it and replaced the cokers with diamond backs, twice haha.

A 300” Ford can make more hp by accident than a straight 8 Buick can make on purpose….besides the guy wants to “modernize!”

Modernize not *******ize. Besides he probably doesn’t like walking. Pontiac v8s can be found reasonable and are not much more to rebuild than a small block Chevy.

How about a "split-six" (dual exhaust)? Aftermarket headers and Porter or Smithy mufflers. It will sound right!

Geez, let the guy build his car. He’s already stated that he has a 350/350 for it.

When I was in high school in the fifties, an Olds Rocket and a Hydramatic was a drop in for old Pontiacs.

    It's traditional.
