Those are all excellent photos John. Like the photographer was up in the tower. The kind of sequence of photos I think @Ryan would love. Thanks for posting them.

 

I especially like this shot because even tho both cars are running in the same cl***, C/Altered, one is clearly more extremely modified than the other. One has max engine setback, devoid of a cooling system, no fenders or hubcaps, nipped frame horns, radical chop, etc. The other - hubcaps, radiator, stock(ish) engine placement, fenders, etc. I wonder if the guy losing is having an "Ah Haa!" moment as he starts to realize what it is going to take to be compe***ive?

In the days before bracket racing that was that Saturday at the races feeling that many of us had as we got into the lanes. As a daily driver, my 33 coupe with no front fenders or running boards was cl***ified as a B/A. You can imagine how out cl***ed I felt in line with Fiats and Bantam roadsters. First round loser every time, but I got to rub elbows with real racers…..

Hammond & McGrath from Redding, Ca. Bonneville legends, I guess they tried drag racing too in 1964, with a blown Olds. I like the Firestone slicks and the old Scott injection.

 

I hear you, but your coupe was probably about as fast as anything around on the boulevards, right?

 

It ran 12.00-11.90s pretty regularly. There were a few other cars around that ran that good or faster. IIRC, the real B/A cars ran mid to low 10s. But we got to make a few tuneup runs on a normal Saturday and that’s really what I liked. I ran Wednesday grudge nights too when they started that (and I didn’t work late).
