I forgot to mention that I am also getting the short block ready, I plan to measure block (std bore) today to determine if I can use these DSS forged inverted dome pistons. If everything measures ok I will have rotating ***embly balanced, if not I will need to have the block bored and purchase new pistons to suit. Glen
I spent the last 2 days finishing up my head lights, I needed to modify head light mounts about 1 inch lower to achieve the right look, happy with how they have turned out, a few pics Glen
Progress slow at present, working a lot with less garage time, I have purchased a radiator (currently being made), and over the last few weeks I have been working on templates for the windows. They are nearly finished and I should be able to drop them of at local auto gl*** shop later this week - another piece of the puzzle to add to the hundreds of other pieces that make up this hotrod. A few pics, Glen
A few pics of recent progress, My radiator has arrived ( will be painted black soon ), purchased some Firestone slicks from a local rodder and started mounted wipers. Also gl*** is being cut as I'm posting this thread. Glen
Long connect ?, this is a pic of the type of wiper kit I used if that's what you mean, its a SPW kit. Glen
yes, that was what I was asking about. Don’t know what happened to the rest of my question, was supposed to read : “ are the brackets with the long connecting rods for sun visors or something else ? “ Thanks - I was way off with sun visors ……..
Gl*** all done now, happy with outcome, made exact to my templates, been working on electric window controller, brought a small unit that uses an original winder handle, took a bit of work but going to be ok, a few pics. Glen
Mounted tail lights and indicators today, still need to drill holes for wires etc, but happy with how they look, next job waiting is to sort out bonnet sides and top - figure out how Im going to mount / hinge whole ***embly, a few pics, Glen
Trial mounted radiator recently to determine clearance for blower pulleys etc, because I modified front crossmember at the start of this build I needed to section crossmember for bottom hose clearance - see pics. I now have the grille where it needs to be in relation to bonnet and side panels. I will have to cut holes in bonnet for air cleaner clearance, I was going to buy a new bonnet as the holes required will cut into some louvers but have decided to cut the one I have and make a louvered bulge to weld in. - at least that what Im currently thinking. I am also trying to figure out how to hinge bonnet and mount side panels, a few pics. Glen
I recently cut holes in the bonnet for the air cleaners and I'm liking how it looks. I have made a louvered bulge to cover the air cleaners but I'm not that happy with it ( if I did go with the bulge it would be around 1 1/2 inch lower than in pictures - and I would need to make another one), I have also purchased some black hi flow air cleaners to use, so that you do not notice them as much, as the car will be painted satin black as in the last picture - at least that's the color I'm leaning to lately. Glen
This car is so nice! If you are interested in opinions that don't count for much, the exposed black air cleaners are the choice over the bulge. Thanks for sharing the awesome build.
Thanks, I am interested in others' advice / opinions - I may not always agree but most (not all) people on this site are like minded. My initial plan for this build was to keep engine under the bonnet but that is not possible, so the louvered bulge was an option, but since cutting holes for air cleaners I like the look and with black filters and a satin black paint they won't be as noticeable. In order to determine if the bulge was feasible would requiring cutting the bonnet to suit the bulge. I feel that if I get the filters low enough and make a bulge about 1 1/2 inches lower it might work - but as previously mentioned I would have to cut bonnet which I do not think I will do at present, I may in the future if I can find another bonnet cheap enough - because I feel I can get the bulge to work. The bulge was going to come up from underneath and be solid riveted in. Anyway, thanks again for kind comments and feel free to share your opinions. Glen
Is there a certain size these days for the turn signals? I run really small LED ones on my cars and bikes. For me that hood scoop is too busy. Maybe something like the original super duty scoops would be more pleasing to the eye. Will you get rego with anything above the hood top?
Not really a certain size for indicators but they have to be visible, a certain distance apart and a certain distance from the ground up. Im happy with the shape of the indicators and have the same for the front as well - they are similar in shape to headlights and taillights. Rego really depends on visibility looking forward but about 3 inch's out of the bonnet is usually ok - my engineer is ok with about 3 inches' but mine will end up about 2 inches for the front one and just poking out for the rear one. My idea with the bulge was that it was not to be noticed as I did not want any indication of a tuff engine (more of a sleeper look) that's why I decided to follow the bonnet louvers and as mentioned if bulge was a little lower and painted the same you might have to look twice, any type of scoop was always out of the question. Any way having the air cleaners out the bonnet or maybe a small bulge is not a bad problem to have. Glen
I spent the past week working out how I was going to mount front grille, sheet metal and bonnet etc. I have fabbed up the sub structure pictured which mounts the lower part of grille shell, locates transmission oil cooler and gives support for fiber gl*** inner fenders. I have purchased a set of Sachse Rod shop bonnet hinges and will hinge bonnet to firewall and lift from front of car. I plan to have bonnet sides lift of at this stage - the support structure for inner fenders will locate the bottom of the bonnet sides and I will fab another support bar to mount the top of the bonnet sides as well as the bonnet / Hood latches on either side towards the front of the car near the radiator ( if you understand what I mean - more pics to follow as work progresses ). Glen
My bonnet / Hood hinges arrived today, the first step was to work out where to cut the body for the recessed mounting points I need to fabricate. The Structure I made for the steering column and under dash brake booster ***embly will need a little modification and will be perfectly suited for my new bonnet hinge mounts. I started modifying it this afternoon but ran out of time, I'm back to work tomorrow for the next few days so I will have to wait till next week to get back to work on this project, a few pics, Glen
Hinges tacked in and bonnet mounted finally, what a **** load of work it took, and a **** load more to go. A few pics of progress, more pics to follow. Glen
Thankyou and its my pleasure to keep posting, here are a few pics of todays progress, I have posted a pic of finished under dash frame and the engine bay bars. These bars support the grille and I intend to hang / mount the bonnet sides onto as well as the bonnet latches as per pics - that's the plan anyway. Glen
A few pics of recent progress, mounting bonnet, sides, grille etc. and getting all gappes ok is proving difficult due to gl*** body, repro bonnet, repro grille and gl*** inner guards. Im happy with how its all going so far, I will get more detailed during final ***embly.. I am so happy to see this hotrod as it will look when finished. I plan to paint car in a distressed look as per original front side panels. Glen
Thanks for the kind comments guys. Most of the inspiration for this build and knowledge I have acquired has come from this website. I am so proud to be part of it. Glen
I had a scoop from an F-600 oil truck on my ‘98 f-150 I made it function with 3” tubing it was awesome! They mounted on the p***enger side of the big fords
