Prepping my Blown Fuel Roadster for another attempt at the 45 year old D/BFR record of 241.848 mph. (We qualified at 245 mph last year but couldn't back it up). Cross your fingers for us.

  3. I wonder if Keith Tardel will be there with his car. Unless I’m mistaken ( and I might be) it’s based on a 32 coupe.

This subject gets kicked around every year, but never seems to happen.

Anyone want to organize something? I'm pretty lousy at those type things.....

This will be my first time ever to go. Looking forward to it. I'll be hanging out in Flat Top Bob's pit and doing what I'm told. LOL

For those who might be interested, there is a gathering for 12 port inline fans planned for Friday afternoon at the airfield. I believe it's supposed to start around 4.

My youngest grandson wants me to take him but I don't know if I can make it this year. Will have to wait and see.

Rode the dirt bike around on the mudflats (surrounding the salt flats) this past weekend - I don't know if I have ever seen it this dry. This is a picture of mud that last year the bike sunk about 1' into.

How old is the grandson? I found having young kids(under 10 or so) can be challenging on the salt.
    They get bored really fast.
Hope to see you there either way!

You guys and gals have fun and be safe.
I'm heading this weekend to the Meltdown drags.
Have this crazy idea back in my mind that if I get a few more car put together one of my car's could be changed to go back there some day.

Questions for those in the know…Can you put up some kind of canopy on the salt? Where do you park? If you don’t have reservations, how far away will you have to drive to get a room typically? Do they sell t- shirts and stuff? Thinking about trying to go this year, if it happens, any suggestions as to what to bring? Thanks.

Once Speedweek starts you pay to come on the salt. daily or weekly. It all starts at the end of the road. You can check on the SCTA-BNI.ORG for information.

You can put up a canopy. Most do from the pits to the starting line. The wind can blow anytime and could be hard. Take appropriate measures. Wells is 60 miles to the west. Ely is 120 to the south if needed. There are usually rooms available on Monday. The SCTA-BNI have a sales trailer in the inspection area.

Thanks Jimmysix…it’s a bit of a long shot with schedules right now, this has always been a bucket list for me. If it happens, want to make the most of it. Getting there and not having basic supplies would put a damper on things? What about binoculars: would they help at all?

Binoculars will definitely help. Bring your own shade, sunscreen, and lots of water. I've stayed in Wells before, but it seems to fill up too now. Radio, CB if you have one will help you keep track of what's going on.

The Motels in Wells NV have kinda gone downhill. Lots of motels near the SLC airport, about 90 minutes away. I inquired about a room at one of the casinos on Monday last year. $450 for a night. No thanks, I slept in my car....

Also take polarized sun gl***es. The glare off the salt is painful

I’ll be there with the 1533 modified roadster.
Last year we weren’t able to back up our run for a new record but we are going to get it this year at Speed Week in 2 weeks !

I took the older of the 2 grandsons to Bonneville along with my cousin from Missouri, 2 years ago I think, maybe 3. He is 14 now and in his 3rd year of dirt oval racing. Younger grandson is 11 1/2 and will also be racing dirt oval next year at 12 years old in Junior cl***.

Just got a call as I was typing this saying he (my son) just broke the right rear leaf spring in his race truck tonight so the grandson won the heat race! He should win the main too.

Anyway, not sure I can make it this year anyway, but we will see.
