Car has been riding like a log wagon since I finished it. Previous owner had let it sit without finishing and has all CPP tubular control arms and suspension had little travel. Found that the steel inserts for the delren bushings were very gaulded and corroded I suppose from sitting up so long. Anyway I have new conrtol arms again but am suspect that the coil springs might be the wrong ones. I'm an old man and want a pretty smooth ride instead of every crack or bump in the road jarring my teeth. Looking for the stock equivilent springs for 55 belair 4 door sedan. Any help appreciated.
rockauto sells Moog 656 springs. 638 springs will make the car sit a little lower. Somewhere I have a chart with all the numbers...but it's been a long time since I played with that stuff. I also have the spring catalog somewhere, perhaps in the shop.
A lot of the roughness you are feeling is transmitted through the hard delrin bushings. Trade that junk to somebody who wants a race car, and use the original arms with rubber bushings. Sometimes “upgrades” really aren’t.
Yea, I don’t understand not just using the original parts and rubber bushings. They seem to work fine and ride as expected on any of the old cars I have had.
Moog has a great online PDF file with tons of information. About 10 pages, worth printing out a hard copy.
I’ll take stock a-arms with Moog parts any day over all the tubular a-arm stuff that’s out there. Good luck with your 55.
