Is his name Silent Rick for a reason?

  5. Perhaps he does not wish to talk
to an overseas buyer, his reputation
    precedes him …

Greg when buying parts etc I use Messenger to chat with seller and see the parts then only pay with GOODS and SERVICES with paypal. Im happy to wear the 4% fee to do that. Just a suggestion for dealing with any seller.

I don't blame you one bit. Have you sent him a PM here asking for his phone number?

my sister has been battling a rare form of cancer for many years, it will go dormant and then resurface. in recent years, she got her final affairs in order figuring to make life easier on her husband when the time came. that's when her husband of 45 years tossed a wrench in those plans and went first. naturally, being alone, it came down to family to be there for her.
suddenly in early april, she began losing strength in her legs. tests revealed a tumor pressing against her spinal cord that required immediate surgery. had she waited any longer, they say she would never walk again.
her surgery was april 11 at the university of chicago, several days there and a week in acute physical therapy closer to home, she's learning to walk and build up her strength. she needs a walker, but she is still progressing.
we had a chair lift installed in house for her to get upstairs and a wheelchair ramp outside.
    Resized_20260516_151743.jpeg
i would do her grocery shopping along with my own and continue to drive her to appointments when there was no other option.
yet after another visit to the U of C in chicago early on june 11 and stopping off to eat on the way home, we discussed the possibility of severe storms coming that night. i was at home watching the weather on television when i received a text at 7:31 that read, tornado hit my house, help.
i spent the next three hours trying to get to her house. downed trees and power lines prevented my every attempt, they wouldn't even let me walk in. after several texts, it was determined that she was ok, not injured and that she would have to wait for emergency crews to rescue her.

    they totalled her car
    20260613_165359.jpg
her wheelchair ramp ended up in her neighbors yard.
over 24 hours later, i got her to my brother's house where she's been since.
so doctors appointments, meetings with insurance adjusters, contractors, asbestos testers...texts from family members on what's next, my niece and her daughter are visiting from London, busy with the heat wave at work, i'm exhausted, both physically and mentally drained.
i thought i would take a page out of my sister's book and start downsizing, selling some stuff, i just don't have time for a phone call, it rings or makes the text sound and i think, what now.
and honestly, i don't see the reason for a phone call, i've been here over twenty years, i contribute when i can, if not sharing my phone number is a deal breaker, move on, find another intake to buy, if you send PayPal, i'll refuse it.
    i don't give a ****.

Wow, Rick, you have my heartfelt sympathy. Wish there was something I could personally do to help. Any HAMBers nearby, please reach out if there is anything you can do.

  11. Like I said …. his reputation precedes
him and if you don’t want to buy from
    him then don’t.

Posting a public thread asking for some
one else’s phone number is not cool.

I don't think Rick needs to weigh in any more and the OP got his answer pretty clear. ;)

.....I only bumped this so that anyone nearby Rick that might be willing to offer some help would know about the situation.

  18. Hi Rick,
I am really sorry to hear what you are going thru at this time and you have my prayers for you and all your family. I had absolutely no idea what you are dealing with and had I known all this I would not have started this post in the first place.
The first half of the year we we ***isted my grandmother every day with cancer right up until her p***ing.
My apologies for all that is going on in your life right now.
Take care and all the best.
    Kind regards,
    Greg

  19. I may be wrong but I honestly believe that I read once that Silent Rick truly does have a some sort of disability
(hearing or speaking?) and am pretty sure I read that he met up with/ran into someone from here at a car show and communicated by typing into some kind of device so other could read his contributions to the conversation.

That alone, in my mind, is justification enough for him to want to steer clear of phone calls but good Lord, I can't imagine what you, Rick are going through at the moment. I truly wish you and your family the best during these horrifically trying times :)

I send my prayers and best wishes to you and your family Rick! I hope it works out well for you.

As for the O.P. I don't blame him 1 bit, in this day and age with scammers getting better at their trade, A.I. capabilities I can't blame him at all. Just because we are aware Rick is an outstanding gent because of our interaction with him doesn't mean everyone else does.

@silent rick So sorry to post a like on your post above but. We all have our own pains to deal with. Yours appears to be extreme and I feel for you. Prayers are being sent from West Virginia.

I’m very sorry to hear about your sister Rick, her troubles are over now and she can rest easy, reunited with her husband. And I have no doubt she’s looking down at you with fondness after the loving care you gave her in her final days.
