Thanks! My press is so old and used I have no idea what the rating is on it. If it were me I would for sure give it a try as it does not take as much pressure as you think to press the spring. I'll put in a picture of the setup I use.
Got the reinforcements done on both ends of the radius rods… hot as hell to be welding in Michigan so sweat in my eyes did not help looking at the puddle. Good thing this stuff is on the bottom of the car
Thanks for the kind words, I’m 54 years old and went from perfect eyesight at 45 to terrible close up vision now so welding has become a real pain to get focused enough to stack dimes like the old days. This sweat running down my gl***es at the exact wrong time is frustrating but it’s better than not welding at all so I guess I’m fine with it. Good thing ugly doesn’t mean weak
probably overkill but I have a hard time relying on but welds holding my rear axle in place so a couple pounds of steel and time makes me sleep a little better at night. Plus I’m not doing this again so if I ever want to make some real power with some real tires I want it ready
Just a heads up, if your using a Speedway Open drive conversion on a 6 spline banjo the yoke fit's REAL loose. I could not see it doing the seal any good with it wobbling around so I made up some .0065 shims to place on 3 of the splines to tighten it up. That = .013 clearance for something that should have .001 so not good. With the shims I had to tap it into place and no more wobble but for the price it should for sure fit better. Sorry no pics, it was just too damn hot.
Deke, That's good information. I wonder if it has anything to do with the country of origin? I hate that about Speedway... and I don't know if the "new" Hot Rod Works is producing their own or if that kit is even available through them anymore. Your solution sounds like a decent one, though! 3blap.
Those kids oversea machining these parts probably don't have the best measuring equiptment and we all know it so I didnt expect + - .0005 but .013 is pretty close to eye ball tolerance. If I had not ordered this kit a year ago and was not in such a hurry to get this thing done I would have tried to sent it back and call Hot Rod Works but it's water under the bridge now I guess. With the shims it only runs out .0008 at the sealing diameter so thats good enough for me.
Only tangentially related but I think most people would be surprised to learn how much manufacturing got brought in house and state side at speedway in the last six years. anyhow carry on. Let’s see that thing drive around the block already man!
If thats the case they should advertise what parts are made here. I try to only use Speedway when I have to since I can get most China parts on Amazon. I'd love to buy USA if I have a choice.
Thanks, I'm working my *** off trying to get it on the road. Rear suspension and axle were painted today and I'm hoping to get it on it wheels again tomorrow. I'll take pics if it pans out
The 270" w/4spd is what I had in this. If I'm remembering correctly it's within 50 lbs of an SBC People will just look at it and say WOW a Hemi with no idea it's only 270" and not a 392"
So while your working hard trying to get your car done why wouldn’t you go ahead and replace the body mounts while the rear end is out…. This was a job my friends, why didn’t I just do a frame off?
Thanks for the compliment but I sold it 3 years ago. I had it for 8 yrs, it was a fun car. The cpe is my long hauler and I've had it since 92
Finally suspension is done and sitting at ride height for the final time. Never mind the dust and dirt and junk
Well I would not say perfect but way closer than the factory for sure. My fenders are off about .350 side to side so I split the difference
