Street Machine Nationals St Paul

Has anyone ever gone to the Street Machine Nationals in St Paul Minnesota? It's this weekend. How many cars do they get and is there a good number of 60's & 70's American iron? Or is it chocked full of imports and late model Mustangs?

We go most years. There's a good mix of most anything, a lot of 60s-80s cars you are into, but a lot of modern straight from the dealer rigs as well.

Half or so the size of back to the 50's.

The thing I am not a fan of is ***igned parking for show cars. You can purchase a spot, and it's yours for the weekend. I have seen a few minivans and such in these spots just so they have a good place to spectate from.

The autocross is neat to watch for a bit if you are into that stuff. The burnout contests attract some junk, IMO.

My son and I are planning to be up on Saturday as spectators.

 

Interesting. The last time I thought anything about a Street Machine Nationals is back when they were in Du Quoin, IL in the 80's.

 

Yeah, I'm surprised that it still exists considering most of the big Hot Rod Shows now allow 70s and 80s cars anyway.

The modern SMN don’t interest me, I guess the original events were more to my liking.
I was at the very first event and most others until the early’80’s.

 

They were still there as well. This year was the last year, apparently. After a 40- year run.

 

A 1976 model year car is now 50 years old, as hard as that is to believe.
I haven't been to the Street Machine Nationals since the last time they were held in Indy. That experience was so bad, I swore back then I was never going to them again, and have kept that promise.

 

It normally draws 4K-6K cars. I live within a half hour of the fairgrounds and have entered my car since it was "done" in 2001. Prior to that I attended as a spectator since the mid-70's.

I've spent a couple day this week getting the GTX ready, and picked up my credentials this morning, everything is ready to go. It's supposed to be a scorcher this weekend, so I probably won't do much cruising...
