History Need help identifying dash clock

My buddy is going through his dad's old things and he found what he thinks is an automobile dash clock. It is br*** with a short stem on the bottom with a winding ball. Swiss is written on the face but there is no maker's name on the face or on the back case. His dad was born in 1924. Anyone have an idea of the year, make, and what car(s) this clock could be from?

 

The problem is that you could buy those clocks aftermarket. So unless it states what car it came from it is dang near impossible to figure out. I have one as well that I 'think' came from something like a lincoln, cadi, etc. just will never know.

If this is indeed automotive, I think it's one of those accessory ones that mounted in a rear view mirror gl***, it does not look like an in-dash one. I'd be shocked to find out it's a factory installed piece in any specific car, although I could be wrong.

Dashboard clocks usually have a longer windup stem.

 

Might help to know the diameter and thickness!

 

I got this one recently. Also swiss- and Oldsmobile.

 

show us the back, and a few pictures from different angles.

 

All the automotive type of clocks I have seen had the winder / adjuster poking out of the front panel.

 

That is a 51, 52 Olds optional steering wheel clock. Winds as the wheel is turned.

 

Just a touch over 2-1/2" in diameter.

If that is a dash clock, how was it held into the dash? The stem on the winder isn't long enough, unless it was mounted at the very bottom of the dash with no lip.

 

He said the face and bezel come off of the back and it looks like dash is sandwiched in between the back and the face to mount it. I found an image of a similar dash clock for a 1930s Bugatti and it also had a short stem.

Both of these examples appear to be from the teens or early twenties. Doxa was, at one time, known for its eight-day watches and car clocks. I haven’t found any list of carmakers that installed Doxa clocks during that period. It was probably sold as an accessory.

The only way to be sure about the manufacturer is to take the back off and look for maker’s ID/movement number.
