Event Coverage Cars that you never look at at shows

Primer,patina,used as a finish. Not finished an left that way*,owner thinks its finished for him*=those who are to lazy to do it,but cover it up with BS> often even in there own brain..

I'm getting old and grouchy been to way TOO MANY car shows/ cruise nights. I'm burnt out on muscle cars, I admire the quality of a lot of them, but boring. I'm basically a hot rodder and tend to gravitate toward them. I like rat rods because they usually something unique going on.

This past Sunday drove the Pontiac down to a small town about 30 klicks away. They have a monthly gathering, mostly European stuff - especially Bimmers but other weird things you never see in the US. Like this 1955 Borgward in excellent shape, sitting next to a TR7 and a wee Datsun behind in a very period correct yellow. I met up with some friends who brought their Jensen Intercepter. A good time was had by all, which of course is the goal here.

It is good to get out of your zone - see different things. When in Seattle I loved to see the All British Field meet. A lot of 'B's buzzing around, but Rileys, Stags, Wolseleys etc.

End of the month is the American Cars Algarve - should be a nice weekend!

I like taking my coupe to shows, it is what you make it! I weed out the bad ones and enjoy the really good ones. So there! LOL.

 

I take my cars to large and small local shows to hang out with like minded individuals and to have fun.
If somebody does not like my car I do not care. To each their own. I never ever make a derogitory comment to anybody about their vehicle. If you don't like don't look keep your dumb/disrespect comments to yourself.

There are good and bad things about getting old. One real good part is that you get old, because the other option has absolutely no fun value whatsoever. A bad part is that you might get stuck in old fart mode and think that the world has nothing new to offer you. You think you've seen it all. Guess what........... you haven't. Get outside your gray-haired comfort zone and do something new and exciting. You can sit and wait 'til it's over complaining all the way, or you can exit this world sideways with your *** on fire. There are new things to see and do. Get out there, man......

 

Well Said my friend, My drag coupe has been called everything from a rat rod, piece of **** , to awesome, beautiful. Does not mater to me. I am simply enjoying my Bad *** girl.

 

Is it not about what car you will not look at... not what car/owner to slag off. JW

 

What look at first is to see if it has three pedals, then I decide if worth looking any further.

 

Or valve covers

 

Fake patina, valve covers from another engine, billet, clear coat over old paint, rat rods, new cars at car shows, and the list goes on.

I generally walk past any club that has late models all parked in a row, like a dealership, with all the hoods up, so you can admire the 100% bone stock powerplant.

 

Even if they are top to bottom modified, I won't even turn my head for anything built in the last 30 or so years... with one exception. I will stop if it has really perfect custom paint job.

 

I generally only go to shows that are free to take my car to like parking lot coffee events. So I get what I pay for as far as the other attendees. I try to see the whole show, sometimes more than once, but occasionally I'll just spend the whole time chatting walking up and down the center of the aisles and not see a darn thing.

 

I bought a nice flathead trans from the guy at the show with the LS and big wheels.

Those guys almost give the old "junk" away just to get it out of the way lots of times. I like buying old junk from guys who ruin cars with late model engines, etc.

 

I’m enjoying mining for parts in places folks around here avoid.

Back when the Rudy Rodriguez (sp?) craze hit the truck scene, I started collecting fenders…I support bobber trucks 100%

 

I got the 283 thats in my truck for $30 off a guy that wanted to LS swap his ride. I was more than happy to get it out of his way.

 

Yep, I have a good running 1970 350 with double hump heads, new aluminum intake, MSD distributor, new Summit carburetor, headers, air cleaner, etc. that I bought for $150 from a guy putting an LS in an Impala.

 

Didn't Welderup popularize that look more than a decade ago?

 

Plastic hot rods, traditional hot rods with SBC power, Camaros & El Caminos.

 

I add first series Corvettes to that looking for a Power Glide into the mid 60’s.

 

Anything with a fancy sign listing every boring detail of the car.

 

I have had one of my cars in one show as a favor to a friend who was a big help with my racing. The NAPA that he was a was a machinist engine builder had a customer appreciation day and I drove it the mile or so from my shop with open headers, slicks and
all. You would be surprised how loud a 12.5-1 500” cammed up 440 is . I’ve never been a car show person but I do enjoy a cruise…

 

Heading to an all Ford show today at a Ford dealership in town. Never been, but curious as to what I might see. It’s their 26th annual show, so should be full of cars. Was thinking of bringing by flathead powered speedster next year if it’s sorta ready. lol!
