Technical FROG MOUTHS, OPINION NEEDED

Well.....after THREE pages discussing frog mouth scoops (REALLY!?)I like rear facing with NO spacer showing.
What about.........putting spacers UNDER the carbs to raise them ?? Nobody mentioned that yet.
No need to chrome anything
Maybe pick up a 'horse or two
Stacking gaskets (or wooden spacers) gives more options
Spacers may help with vapor-lock (if any)
Spacers will give a more finished look (not different size spacers under frog mouths
Your car...do as you please! Just leave them facing rearward

Thought about that but it opens another can of worms. Mainly remaking the hard fuel lines and carb linkage. I only considered it for a second.

 

You need to take out those screens, they cut the flow down 30%

I have a set of small velocity stacks as well, and no, direction is not a concern when using them. My daughter even made a neat set of covers to keep the rain out when parked.

I'm thinking you won't notice the spacers so much once they're plated. I think facing the windscreen would collect less bugs in the carbs and I like this look .

I like 'em staring back at me too. No difference noted in how they run but I haven't been faster than 60...yet.

Facing forward looks better in my opinion.

 

How about re-doing those engine mounts/pads and set the engine back down like it was?
Either way it is way cooler than anything I have!

I have run them both ways...it's a mood thing really and they go fast either way...those fuel lines look bigger than what I'm running...they darn near like heater hoses...my eyes my eyes...

@Bandit Billy I vote for forward or backward level with the hood opening...so I suspect it will be on varied thickness ringed shims fabbed from your rings...Would polished aluminum not suffice...the scoops on mine are polished...yours are chromed I suppose. Since they're going to be low profile perhaps polished will be fine...I'll bet that installation/removal will be somewhat laborious but maybe you can secure them to the scoops and get away with 1 setscrew as per the typical setup or do you run 2?

I run bug domes only as well and screen really does restrict airflow but those rubber ring foam things restrict even more...I'm running 94's and they were very sensitive to restriction but did run with those thin foam things then I ditched them for the domes only...

 

Mine were polished but they were cheap Speedway scoops, and the aluminum was likely beer cans and used tinfoil. No matter how many times they were on the buffer they would look good for a few months and then show streaks and stains. I even had my buddy at the chrome shop try it and he got pops from the aluminum exploding at high temps leaving pock marks. That is why I chromed them.

I am sure it is unrelated but since turning them around my car doesn't run well. It runs down the highway fine but dies when you let off the gas at the light. It restarts easily. When driving it the car starts to die, I hit the gas and the carbs sound like they are ****ing air. My wife noticed it as well and asked me what was wrong. It is also hard to catch an idle after a week in the garage. It takes several minutes before it will idle without dying.

I am doing some car painting for my SIL right now, when done I will pull the plugs and see what the hell is going on. Like I said, unrelated other than maybe the roadster liked the scoops the way they were.

 

Fuel Filter maybe?

I didn't notice much difference in the way mine ran either way...maybe yours liked the ram air...

Can you clear cote buffed aluminum? Aluminum does require more maintenance for shine thats a given...

 

I have clear coated and I just had a friend ask the same question as he just took delivery of a trio of them. It changes the look a bit. Ever seen a clear coated aluminum wheel vs a bare polished one? You can pick it out a mile away. And if the clear chips, it is a pain to remove.
