Technical Spring Perch Offsets

IT looks like I need to move my spring perch hole to better center my rear axle. How far is reasonable before issue - can I go an inch?

Is this on rear parallel leaf springs? If so, yes, an inch is not a problem.

That may depend on the head size of the locating pin bolt, sometimes as large as 7/8". Accommodating a bolt head that size would leave very little meat between holes. Smaller bolt head size bolts are available though.

 

Done this many times even on rock crawling rigs that twist the leaves a LOT when articulating and never had an issue.

 

Not sure exactly what the application is, or how it is setup, but there are lots of spacer plates out there with various offset pin locations.

 

Make sure to check the front yoke engagement on the transmission output shaft is within the proper range with the rear end moved an inch.

 

Yes. This is a new build, so the length isn't set yet.

 

When we hung the new rear end on the Ch***is Engineering rear springs under my 40 coupe we used the 2 inch adjustable lowering blocks from Speedway to center the rear end in the fender hole.

 

I thought those CE kits were supposed to move the axle back about 1-1/2"

 

I have moved them as much as 1.5" for the main leaf hole to center an axle. I only drill the main leaf and leave the other leafs original. If that makes the next longest leaf too close to the spring eyes I just whack it off to length.
