Anybody have a small horn that is loud that they like? I have tried two different small horns but that sound like they are for a moped. Thanks in Advance.
You can get a piezoelectric buzzer that sounds like a horn. These are about 105db and the size of a quarter [is that small enough?] Standard car horns typically produce between 100 and 110 decibels )
I buy newly manufactured components when warranted. But horns ain't one of 'em. There have to be a million horns out in them there salvage yards. And most of them are no bigger than a baseball. Take a small battery with wire and alligator clips with you so you can test 'em. They're all tuned to a particular note. In fact I think most are all are marked with the note they play. Get two or three and harmonize.
My daughters 49 Plymouth has its original 6 volt horns on 12 volts, it will deafen you at 100 feet. But they are big,
On my last 5W I did a beep beep horn and a stebel air horn controlled via a switch (dual relays) so I could toggle between them. Thought it would be fun to be able to beep beep when puttin around so I wouldn’t scare anyone and then use the air horn when out on the road. Current Tudor I decided to say screw the beep beep and just use an air horn. Mounted the beep up front (visible) and the air horn on the firewall. 5W: Tudor: .
On my last couple cars I've used the small air horn shown above I found at Speedway. It has the Volume of an 18 wheeler horn. I mount it on the firewall of my 32 Fords. Really gets someones attention when I honk it. About $45.
I don't know how available they are anymore, but I've used a horn from Saturn vehicles. Nice and small, with a mounting bracket and plenty loud. I.don't think it matters what model , since I think they all use the same one.
The horn on my Roadster did not get enough attention from other drivers. I searched "loud motorcycle horn". This is the one I selected: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000DINKPQ/?tag=atomicindus08-20 I mounted it off the right front motor mount. I now get attention when I honk.
