Ride with me in DREAMY at Charlotte Motor Speedway...

 

Got selected for the Hot Wheel legends show. How cool would it be to have your car made into Hot Wheels….I know it’s a long shot and I sure don’t expect but it’s good to be selected for the show. They say to stay close to the car so the judges can talk to you. I’ll tell them about DREAMY. And if they ask about how long I’ve been into Mercs, I’ll show them these.

I think it would be cool to stage another photo shoot (in color and B&W) with people dressed in 50's clothes and hairstyles. Perhaps a pair of young couples on a double date stopping for ice cream. Slap a vintage plate on the car and maybe add a kid with a cone checking out the car.

I like the people, looks less staged

Every time this thread pops up got to have a look. Just shot my kid the Dairy Queen photo before I scrolled down, only thing I put in the email was DREAMY, scroll down and see CREAMY, hey I was only off by one consonant! My vote, the photo with the people.

 

DREAMY turns into CREAMY when you ask AI to edit an image......

 

Custom Car Revival at Indianapolis.

 

DREAMY gets new binders. Start with a drum brake hub from a 1st gen camaro then add 12 inch rotors for C3 corvette, Wilwood billet aluminum dual piston calipers for a C10 pickup, all under a traditional 15 inch wheel. Next will be rear discs from a 2wd blazer, then hydro boost. Hopefully a really good brake upgrade. She’s got a 1st gen sub on er and a GM corporate 10 bolt rear so hunt for good stuff isn’t bad…..kinda fun actually.

 

The goal here is to have an upgraded brake system on my Merc. There are a few parameters to consider here. One is keeping the 15 inch wheels which limits rotor and caliper size and fitment. Another is clearance when a vehicle is lowered as much as DREAMY is. And another consideration, while not necessary, is a parking brake. Here I have a common GM corporate 1O bolt rear end. The 2wd blazer rear disc brake is a bolt on swap. The difficulty is the clearances when severely lowered. So here I have the rear disc brakes mocked up with the junky parts. Everything seems to clear well. Although this is not a complete bolt on swap, with a little fabrication, it should work very well.

 

What fabrication was involved? Caliper mount?

 

Yes, relocating the caliper so it will clear the frame. The same with the front calipers. The front caliper mounts had to be moved radially to account for the larger rotor. This is the part you have to be sure of because it involves cutting and welding on a caliper mount. After building and fabricating on countless race cars and building many totals and repairing many wrecks and knowing how to get a proper weld, I feel very comfortable here. YMMV.

No new wheels. Those American Racing Torque Thrust 2's and Diamondback radials have been on there since just after I got the car. The '48-'52 Caddy sombreros cover the Torque Thrust 2's
