Hot Rods Historic Bonneville Race Car Found, The Losinski/Duncan/Chrisman roadster

Most people that know me know im always searching for survivor hot rods and their history, well procuring another one lead to an even greater find.....

This little show and go T https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/found-show-and-go-t.1353130/ was posted for sale on facebook, i ended up making a deal on it and went and grabbed it. after i got home with it i posted a little video about it, then next day in the comments a guy from Chicago said he had a 32 roadster for sale and posted a pic as a reply, it was a neat little roadster,

albeit a 29 roadster on 32 rails, well i followed up on it and made a deal. i never in my wildest expected it be the car it turn out to be......


The car turned out to be the Losinki/duncan/chrisman roadster!

here are some early pics of it, Jimmy B had the keen eye and recognized a few things on the car that matched up......thanks Jimmy for helping identify it!

ive been doing loads of research and will be working on putting it back to its 1954 bonneville iteration….
it had a weird disk brake set up cobbled on so on went new spindles
on went some better looking rubber,

i also figured out it had a Ardun in it at 1954 bonneville

pulling out the wood firewall from the 70s

 

That's super cool, and it sure does look like it. Will be neat to see if any of that gold/brown paint is found, an any other neat bits of history as it comes apart.

Also super glad it's going to be put back into it's original format. Seems like it won't even take too terribly much to do that, either, not a ton has changed.

 

At the 1954 bonneville meet they must have had trouble with the Ardun and a Desoto hemi installed in the roadster, i believe the engine was ran in the Chrisman Coupe to set the record and was pulled out and put into my car, The chrisman car ran a dodge and desoto at the even and set records with both motors.

i believe the guy is building a set of headers, look closely, still had flathead water pipes in the frame

its for certain the car, who ever did the red paint job stripped it down to bare metal for the repaint, im sure i will find some brown hidden somewhere but at the moment i have not.

Ed Losinski started racing it around 1952, he eventually sold it to Harry Duncan, ive been talking with Harrys great grandson, whos grandpa is still alive (Harrys son Vernon) Vernon was a teenager when they had all the hot rods so he remembers stuff about them, they told me the car was painted blue after the brown and drag raced a little more after its bonnville days.

 

i will be starting by doing a mechanical restoration first, then will do the paint down the road

i’ve already collected up a 276 desoto and hilborn mechanical injection

Gone to the right custodian for sure, well done @***us . Another absolute gem in your awesome collection. You sure have your ears open at the right times to pounce on such fantastic historical rods. Hey as I said when we visited with the Texas crowd ,if you need space I can give the 32 Vicky nice dry inside storage down under in NZ.

 

Years ago I remember seeing this roadster, the Chrisman Brother's coupe and the Gl*** Slipper on trailers in the Nugget parking lot in Carson City on the way to Bonneville. It was a pleasant surprise walk out of the Nugget and see them.

This is cool as all get out. I was like "nah" then saw the comparison pics and was like "yea"

 

I believe that is exactly whats going on in that pic, the car went to bonneville in 1954 with an Ardun, they did their run and it did 174 mph, but a back up run was never made, im ***uming the motor was hurt, so i believe they put the desoto in it, i dont know if it ran again or not, the even got some rain....

if you look at this photo closely you can see the ardun head in a bucket in front of the car

I'm cornfused. Way back in this thread there is a comparison of the roadsters in 90-degree shots of both roadsters. And looking at the photos, the pivots of the front and back axle stands (?) have a differing distance between. And the straight-on shots of the front axles also appear to be located differently. To me, that would usually not be changed very often. ???

 

It looks like the front split wishbone mounts are the same, just the rear mounts were moved back when the shorter ladder bars replaced the split rear wishbones. In one pic it appears that it still has a stock wishbone.

 

the rear suspension has been changed, the original pivots were cut off and new ones put on to shorter ladder bars. the front suspension is totally intact

 

yup, the early version it has unsplit bones, thats when the motor was in its original location, when the motor got set back the front bones were split and rear bones moved outward.

 

Whatta ya wanna bet @Ryan is gonna be making a beeline for this thread pretty soon.

 

What an incredible find! Amazing these old cars from the early days of hot rodding are still around waiting to be found.

 

Holy **** man!! Too coool. What are the odds of this car just basically falling right into your lap? It was meant to be, no doubt. And I’m glad it ended up with you, instead of someone that never would have researched it and took it in a whole different direction.
