Which is the same car from Two Lane Blacktop with a few changes, since the studio still owned the three 55's from that movie.

 

Im gonna build one as it was intended in am graf. No fibergl*** front clip, bbc, should be fun

Don't forget George Lucas had Milner's coupe built as he remembered hot rods from his youth. He didn't refer to any earlier or current builds. It's what he thought a hot rod should look like.
When hot rod guys build a car that ends up on film you get different results - The California Kid is a legendary chopped 1934 Ford three-window coupe built by Pete Chapouris that became a gold standard for traditional hot rodding. It gained m***ive fame after starring in the 1974 ABC movie "The California Kid" starring Martin Sheen.

 

Idk about C/F, but there was, a few yrs ago, at least 1 fibergl*** mono-leaf as a replacement for the ford leaf-pacs, in the streetrod circles. &, of course, a few in the 'vette circles, don't remember them looking like the ecklers(???)... Don't know what ever happened to the streetrod versions. Thought it was a good idea, but cheap, they weren't... Nor were they adjustable, so what you got - is what you worked with. & iirc, there weren't very many variations in spring/weight rates. Kinda problematic...

I've watched all the videos on this Coupe, fun project to follow. Glad you posted here, 10 years ago there were a lot of builds like this going on, good to see you are up to three pages of replies. Now I have to watch the new video.

I’ve watched the first few videos and it’s been so refreshing to see. Sam, you are a true craftsman and I appreciate your real world approach and techniques. I hope this type of quality content helps younger guys become interested in the hobby and sparks some new interest in early hot rods. Thanks for putting in the effort to really show people the details.

Hi Sam! So far I've loved watching the videos! I see #3 dropped, I'll watch it tomorrow. It seems this car is gonna be awesome! Keep up the good work. I do have a question though. What's it look like inside of that "Ridge Runner" intake? Is it just a bread box or are there runners inside? Just curious, I've never seen one.

 

Pardon my stupidity: ^^^^ that last pic, manifold comes apart like that or that one cut apart? I see manifold designed individual runner. What rpm that length runner designed for?. Tks much for posting pics. Obviously not know that manifold

 

That was cut apart for a custom application

 

Figured had to be cut. Years ago saw early vette injection, blocked side intake & had 2 fours on top. This box sure reminds me of that set up. Never saw inside that vette injection manifold, suspect pretty similar

 

He started his concept using a vette fuel injection intake

The build videos are great!! Very nice metalwork on the recessed 29 firewall.

 

If I had a neighbour/friend with the skills Sam has, my project would be done in months instead of the years it’s taking me. David is very fortunate to have Sam. I wonder what his neighbours think of all the “noise”? lol!

 

Been a fun series to watch. I especially like what you guys did with the firewall.
It's funny to me as opinionated on style as David is that he's made some interesting choices regarding that car. Not things I would have done or that may even be popular, but I can respect that.
