Big day at my garage. We have tacked all the turbo pipes and pieces. It is now time to TIG everything, polish and reinstall everything, I really like the way everything looked before we did the dis***embly. The car sure looks empty now

 

Working overtime to pay for the Moal Torsion bar ch***is for my three window.

 

Rearranging my engine corner to get a patient off the floor and on a stand. Now to figure out what cylinder heads so I can order the rotating ***embly. 4 bolt 454 block getting a stroker and a 871 blower.

 

Picked up a 38 Ford Humpback that I'll be building on the cheap for a friend. Lost his wife of 48 years(cancer) and 3 1/2 weeks later his house (floods) in the last year and figure it'll take his mind off things and get him out and about next summer. Won't be starting on it in earnest until November, like most, needs floors and a tail pan. May or may not do a quickie build thread on it, time will tell. Did a citric acid bath on the running boards and always amazes me how well it works, Boards will get new rubber mats.

 

And it's going into ?? Geronimo? How's that project coming?

 

This is a customer engine.
Geronimo is just setting. It's mowing the yard and other summer time maintenance right now.
I have one other customer engine I need to finish up and a transmission rebuild to do on my wife's suburban also. Hopefully this winter I can get back on it.

 

I hear you on that list of summer tasks. Mowing takes time, but not as much as fixing the mower, the weedeater, the chainsaw, etc. on and on. Last week I changed out the master shower exhaust fan, the shower hose and the air conditioner fan. A week earlier it was the washing machine pump. Mr. Fixit (me) got the AOD transmission back from the rebuilder, installed it last week and now I'm getting gl*** in the '29AA (got to replace a stress-cracked broken driver's door window), wiring the cab marker lights, installing the roof and hanging the p***enger door on my own. I'll probably give up on that solo act and get someone to help.
Once that's accomplished, I'll call a rollback to pick up the hotrod, take it back to the transmission shop for their fine tuning of the throttle velocity cable, then down the road to the muffler shop for an exhaust system and finally begin the ***ling and licensing process.

I'm a big fan of those 8.8 rear ends. I am curious why you stayed with the conventional brakes and didn't go with a later model disc brake rear end? Staying conventional on the front? Also, good for you being able to pull the axles without a h***le on that 8 mm bolt that locks in the rear pin. Nasty little bolt that seems to require pre-heating before attacking it.

 

Getting the 53 ready for its first carshow this Sunday after being hidden away inside an enclosed ramp truck in the woods for 20 years. Got the ignition and fuel systems dialed in, new brakes, cleaned out all the mouse piss, pulled the headliner and found rust in the inner structure.

 

Took the G.P. to the 22nd Annual Savannah, Oh Fire Dept Car show before heading out on this weeks transporting trip. This is a great, long running local show & their grilled 1/2 chicken dinner with homemade sides & deserts are legendary. Hundreds come just for the dinner! We dodged a few light rain showers during the show, but the rain did not affect the show. Received a "Top 20" plaque which I thought was fair, but I thought the plaque image was really Cool! Thought of my Big (bigger not older) Brother @Lloyd's paint & gl*** immediately!

Upon returning home from this weeks trip, I received an email saying the G.P. was approved for the upcoming "Dayton Concours d'Elegance Show" Sept. 20th. This is good & bad news as I am happy it was accepted, but I am under NO delusions that this car is nice enough to win anything at a show like that!

I will spend any free time I get between now & then getting it to be something that will not get laughed at during the judging! LOL

The car was 4 wheel drums when I got it, then I added power disks on the front and left the factory rear drums for a few years.
Last year I swapped in a ranger 7.5 when I did the AOD conversion and kept the drums so I didn’t have to change the master cylinder again.

this 8.8 was an upgrade to the 7.5. It’s 5/8” different width from the factory ford wagon rearend.

fwiw; and it probably doesn't really matter to anyone, but I put discs on the front of Clarence in 1992 at the same time I put a Ford 8" drum brake rear in. I've driven this thing around the world 12 times (only slightly exagerated) since then and it works/stops just fine.

On the other hand, if I had known then what I know now I'd have put new parallel leaves and kingpins in and kept the beam axle. Also rebuilt the steering box and all new bushings, tie rod ends, brake drums, brake shoes, etc. At the time I had no disposable money and it was cheaper to install an OT independent than rebuild what was there.

Bill I too got invited to a Concours Car Show the 16th of this month with my wagon. Like you I'll spend a couple days on it next week making it presentable, then plan on parking it there, walking away and checking out the real show cars there. Good Luck to you and enjoy. Believe there are 230 cars total for the 2026 Coal Dock Park Concours in Port Washington.

 

Hey, bushings, bearings and shocks are optional !

 

I only removed the shock to be able to replace the bushings, and I only did the bushings on one side...but I did replace the bearing.

I think we feel the same way about these shows, however Laura really likes the G.P. even though she hasn't even ridden in it yet & I can't let her drive it yet, because the Slim Jim is on its last legs. I am manually shifting it 100% of the time (winter project). She has said she wants it to be one of the ones we keep. If that does indeed turn out to be the case, it is nice enough to partially blow it back apart & make it something that will compete in the judged shows. She is going with me to Dayton as she has never experienced a judged show. I will have a customers car in the Audrain Show at the Breakers the beginning of October, but can't take her with me for that one as I have to concentrate on the customer & his car.

I have put almost 500 miles on it since the 1st of June & am enjoying the hell out of it!
