The tub was 1440mm long just a bit too long for me so I cut 50mmoff each end, looks a bit more balanced to me.
I was enjoying the project so much today, I forgot to pull the mask down before pulling the trigger on the mig staring right at it, I am expecting pain tonight.

Yes as can be seen by the double post and poor spelling!

 

Not much to see but made some chains and hooks 8 mm rod for hooks and 6mm chain, leather covers from an old couch that I stripped before throwing out. The wife’s quilting sewing machine works great on leather (don’t tell her)

You could do your self a favor, and secure its ends, eg. by sewing or riviting. If you're nervous to have it too close to the leathers edge, you can do it in the second to last chain link.

I have been undecided about a fuel tank.
I have an oval one looks good but it needed some repair.
Then I thought the fuel cell in a trunk, good but takes up a lot of space.
Managed to get the fuel cell under the floor a bit in your face so painted black and likely have a number plate on it.

 

My radio stopped working, had to give it a tap to get it going, these things have a ******** that converts the 6 volt DC to AC to get the valves going. Pulled the ******** to bits and the tar had turned to dust. Contact clearer a little non acidic silicone to replace the tar and is working again. When I was an apprentice electrician 45 years ago I did industrial electronics at night school, when we got to the module on valves the teacher held one up an said “this is a valve you will never have to deal with one” and we moved on to the next module. So here I am 45 years later looking at valves with no training.

 

I found some rear guards, I am sure they will look better in black and I need to lower the rear. I think I will have a go at reversing the main spring.

 

A Model T rear spring works great in the rear.

l got this spring with some other bits I think it is a model A, one leaf is cracked, is it worth trying to reverse the main with my press or should I take it to a spring works?

 

I found it more reasonable to just buy a reverse-eye mainspring from a good spring maker. It cost me a little over a hundred dollars about five years ago when I broke the original mainspring trying to reverse it myself in the 20-ton press. CAUTION! If you're doing this yourself go a little at a time. Too fast or too much and it will break, going off like a rifle shot across three garage bays into the wall. How's that for a visual?

 

Guards painted black and on, just need to sort the tail lights, everyone seems to be out of stock of non led red and amber.

 

If you're into doing everything, or are on a tight budget, reversing yourself is a good option.
I did it years ago, just make sure to take it a little at a time - patience is key!! Broke one (a front) previously, so I learned to be very careful, especially around the bolt hole in the middle. But; it's just in the press, slight bends at a time, and repeat.

Like the front fender set-up, rear could do with some boppin'!

Thanks Blueron, trying to keep the cost down and as you will find all parts are generally available in the US but the postage is a killer. I see you are looking at a tourer, good choice as you can fit in the friends and family, I will keep an eye out for your project.

 

Decided on red and amber taillights, (out of stock in most places).
They come with 2 single element globes, so I bought some dual element sockets from amazon ground off the mounting tag, pushed out the lower single socket from the housing and pushed in the dual socket, had to tighten up the hole in the light back a little, applied a little JB weld. now have separate blinker, tail and brake lights.
Made a couple of basic brackets.

Also got a club plate from VicRoads today, the lovely you lady there was more excited than me as its the oldest car she has had apply for one, she even went through the plates to find me one with 29 in it without me asking.

 

I was going to give the 28 rpu its maiden voyage today but the brand new fuel pump had other ideas, ran and failed after 5 mins. Could have been worse, I could have been miles from home.

 

decided to cut open the fuel pump to see why it failed, burnt out semiconductor, not ideal around fuel.

 

New fuel pump in regulator set as low as it would go
Carb floods, check float needle seems ok Les Andrew’s book says 1 inch to seem I have 3/4 inch but level set closer to 1 inch with another fibre washer still flooding

 

Put a pressure gauge on the regulator, same pressure out of the regulator as the pump no matter what the settings, Amazon reg is no good don’t try one.

 

Got a Holley reg works a treat, pressure set to 2 psi no issues with leaks.
