Projects What can you do with this 1939 Dodge 4door?

Got offered this car today. It was buildt in Pennsylvania and bought to Sweden in 2017. Has a Chrysler 360 and a 904 automat. Was thinking maybe late 60's early 70's hotrodlook. What u think? The sunvisor and the wirewheels has to go in my opinion.

 

You could do a Lowrider,some of those are cool.

I agree with Dana. That car would be a great cruiser, it looks the part already with the visor on it.

 

I've seen some nice early custom style Lincoln Zephyr sedans, and I feel like any treatment that works on those would work on this.

The extra doors, visor, red wire wheels, and yucky brown color conspire to make it look not at all like a hot rod. Maybe it's not a hot rod.

But you could change some things, and make it look better. Lose the visor, get some mag wheels, and some other color, and you'll make a good start.

Yeah, that color combination makes it look like it's made of wood...mahogany and walnut.

It's not a hot rod, or street machine, it's lowrider material..
Change the color, lower it and fit 100 spoke wheels and white walls, keep the sun visor. Now you've got a real cool lowrider..
Drive the hell out of it..

 

I’d paint it yellow with checkerboard stripes, and drive the **** out of it.

I'd leave the color and find someone to pinstripe it. Add air ride suspension and wheels and tires. Leave the visor and get it running like a top and cruise it!

We've all got our preferences..........at least its not something different like a red 32 Frod........but what would I know after owning & building my brown 1940 4Dr Dodge for since 1971........I'd swap the wire wheels for some Cragars, lose the visor and just drive & enjoy it for what it is.......an old car, a hot rod, a street rod or whatever YOU feel it is & don't worry what others think.......Andy Douglas

I want to remove the visir, rims and bumpers to start with. Cool rims, stance and nerf bars is plane A

 

Its properbly what will happen. Love those different hotrods. 32 Fords Are so boring in my book. I just ask for ideas. Will do it my way. Any pictures on your 40 would be cool?

 

I'm with the remove the trim/moldings as 49ratfink showed.

Get rid of the visor, change color, something offbeat not the usual red, black etc. Maybe a nice darker green metallic.

The right wheels with black wall tires, drop the nose. Paint the headlight rims body color to give it a somewhat frenched look and change the grille to a simple bar grille, maybe 3/8" wide polished aluminum bars running horizontal like the factory bars are now. But a nice simple thin bar grille.

Then I'd drive the **** out of it. But it would be nice simple changes and subtle too, let the factory body lines speak for themselves...

Trade out those wire wheels for some steelies and hubcaps, and yes, the visor has to go, almost forgot, put in some electric solenoid pins on the suicide rear doors so they can't be opened while the car is moving.

Your on to something. I was thinking some stance. Nice rims with blackwalls, was thinking maybe a flat mediumgreen metallic. Nerf bars front and rear and maybe loose those hoodsides. The visir and the wirewheels will be the first things to leave the car

 

Lowrider and keep the sun visor. It captures the period of the car, like a ****y tilt to a fedora.

 

Didn't Ian Roussel make a motorhome out of one? Something way out as I remember. He used the rear roof with it's streamlined look to great effect.
