Ya, Lil' John was the "B" in R&B race cars which is still alive here in Kenosha Wi. I understand they built the first Chi-Town Hustler back in 68. When Funny Cars were still funny!.
Hey Lil...whats the low down on your fuel car days?????????....or we could wait for the book to come out
don't know how this thing works. just signed on cuz i was told that some fool decided to tell the world that i don't know how to finish things. anyway for the rest of you folks thanks for all the nice coments lil john
Hey, at least I spelled your name right. At least, I think I did. This board will NEVER cease to amaze me. hahahaaa
I hope this really is you... Cause I want to thank you for writing the build up articles you did for HRM. I read them as a kid, and you made it all seem possible. Today I make a living building Hot Rods, and you are at least in part responsible for that....
you're welcome. hope i'm responsible for some of the good stuff. i think it's me, i look like me lil john
I've always wondered how your name is supposed to be pronounced.. Boo-tera? or the other one I've heard, ****er-uh?
John: it is indeed a pleasure to see you post here, I hope you can share more of your experiences with us. Many of us have followed your creativity for years, indeed your articles in Hot Rod were a**** the best they ever produced. IMHO. Thanks for the inspiration. ------------- Unkl Ian www.allshops.org
Lil John, I have a picture of a First Generation Nova that you built Black and Silver with Corvette running gear. That Car is the best looking thing I have ever seen. Is it still around and how can I get more information on it? Awesome stuff that you build, the stance of all your cars that I have seen is perfect.
Sorry, Mr. ****era. I know how you feel, though. Mine's Daugird, constntly misspelled and mispronounced.
I really learned a lot from your all-to-brief fabrication series in HRM about a hundred years ago. Any chance of some of that here?? I'm interested in technique of making stuff, of course, but also in your thoughts on design, as your cars like the T sedan and the early Nova had such a seamless mix of ancient tin, late stuff, and purely fabricated parts. The cars came off as integrated designs rather than the heap-of-parts look of many of the streetrod imitators. Your work in racecars translated to the street really well.
Lil' John; Great to see you here, too bad it started out on a negative note. One of my favorite cars of all time I do'nt think anyone mentioned is the '33 willys you built for Joe H. When I saw that car at the Hotrod Nats it blew me away. My dad left me there laying on the ground staring at the suspension and wheels for a couple of hours!
Thanks for hopping in on this thread John. Your work and the way that you do things (as per the articles that have been published) has truly been an inspiration for me. Thanks again! And ditto for what Bruce asked.
Thanks for joining us, John. It's an honor. Could you please move in with me and finish my cars for me? I'd really appreciate it and there's free room and board in it for you. Thanks again for stopping by. -85% Jimmy
I used to stare at the front cover of an issue of Rod Action back in the mid 70's that had the white 29 unfinished, I thought that was incredible in a world of white letter rubber and crushed velvet. Mind you, I still stare at pictures of unfinished cars!
buterra has to be one of the greatest builder of all time he owned the funny car ch***ic world. built and qualified a car at indy. created the billet fad. built many ground breaking cars. the only the he does not excell at is self promotion like boyd and fatman. currently i believe he cranks out custom bike parts.
This thread provided some good info. I would love to see pics of some of the cars mentioned. The Nova for example.
LIL John is the REAL DEAL. His crafstmanship & design's have been an insperation to me from day one. My favorite Lil John project was Shoe's last Wonder Wagon, the one with the functional grill & duct work and canard wings - then the Monoque Top Fuel car - FN ausome....! Not sure if it was Mentioned, but he was the ( B ) In ( R&B ) race-cars in the WIS days. I have heard story's about a electrical conduit dragster ch***is, is that true...? Ever think about writing a book..?? Hope I get to meet you some day. Rich Pauza PAUZA SFD Inc PAUZASFD.COM ( click the link to metalshapers ) HOT RODS with RACE CAR DNA
