any one use the cab for a extra large hotrod ? iv allways thought about building one someday with a big chop n maybe some sectioning n a channel job. pics? photo shop? i drive a lot for work n i allways think about it when i see one.
I 've seen pics of a pickup with a Peterbuit cab. It was just a regular pickup though. Had stacks and a flatbed.
You might try searching or maybe someone could re-post it, a couple months back there was a pic of a cool truck made out a White truck cab, with a Terraplane grill.
that would be very cool hanks truck pictures has a lot of old petes on there to give you a better idea on what cab to use the blastoline bros site had pics of one in progress
iwould stick with the hauler thing not go into the hotrod relm with it some things just dont mix but thats just my .02 cents
I saw a 40's era White or some other big truck cab in the one yard, it wasn't much bigger than a '50's pickup cab - it would have made a good cab for one of those rat-rod style trucks that are channeled and chopped and the cab set way back.
Side question: Did Whites ever have a script-embossed sheet metal panels (like pickup tailgates used to)? Reason I ask is that's my last name, so it'd be cool as hell to graft one on to a spare tailgate I can swap out on the Hudson truck.
What Mack cab is narrower than the others? I have seen one on dumptrucks where the p***enger side was "offset" to the left on the ch***is. I wonder what that cab width is compared to an earlier '40s style?
I know where there is a 1947-48 "Diamond T" COE cab in good shape, complete for 1500.00 If anybody is interested.
Peterbilt conventionals used steel cabs until 1972. That ended with the narrow windowed cab. Big windows and aluminum came in 1973 with peterbilt
Basically all conventional cabs up until around 72 we narrower. Mack retained that with the R models. The offset cab is the U model, more for cement mixers and local dumps than anything else.
George Sprowl of antique express has built 7 3/4 size mack and peterbilts where he has measured and then replicated the bodies. Done awesome good too.
This came up several years ago. I think it can be done. A lot of the old Big Rigs had sweet lines. Like the Macks, and Jimmys ("Excab" sleeper shelves). The '50s REO's and Diamond T's were super cool. Think about a dropped, chopped, channeled White with later model ***mins or 3208 Cat in the front. Run the stack right out the back side of the turbo and blow black. Shoot even keep the big 3 piece wheels and get the Vintage big rig tires Coker sells. Shoot even channel the back half of the frame down where the horsehoe sits below the top of the tires. I can see it now, the next horizon of rat rods is rat rigs.
