Back in 1993 early September they had a snowfall that closed the road for a little while... arrived in my old OT 4x4 suburban with a granny gear trans just as they reopened the road... The higher elevation still hadn't been plowed yet and what a blast it was charging up the hill! My tires were well worn and I had the 4 Wheel drive engaged and it was great! I had a layer of mud all over that retired Arizona state vehicle! never washed it off until it wore off! (I did clean the windows and lights, however...)

My favorite, 1922 when Noel Bullock, drove his Model T racer from Nebraska to the race and beat all the big shots.
I was fortunate enough to receive a guided tour of that museum by the curator. So much knowledge of the event and the exhibits that I would never have known otherwise. I participated in the hillclimb several times as a manufacturer support person and, although I have worked at 107 different race tracks around the world, I put it right up there as one of my favorite events, even in the modern era.
