Like Jim said, Most likely a Ford 300. Ford only made some 4+ Million 300's over 30 years, so it is not like they are exactly rare.
Clifford research offered that intake for vertical Webers in the 70’s. They offered long tube headers also so I’m not sure on the one shown. They now offer many short inline 4 & 6 cylinder tubing headers.
Do you have a picture of the driver (LH) side? Here's some 300 pictures to help ID. The Ford 300 is undoubtedly one of the most reliable, rugged inline sixes ever made. The downdraft intake would be fun to use on a hot rod. Fordsix.com is a good website.
To be more specific vis-a-vis production quan***ies, I was given this commemorative pen by the Cleveland Casting Plant. It states there were 7,420,643 300 (4.9L) engines produced there.
Thanks for the replies. No other pictures but what is included in the link I posted. I was just intrigued by the carb set up. When I was a mechanic at a dairy in the mid '70's we had a bunch of Divco milk trucks that had Ford 300's in place of the Continental sixes they came with. The Fords ran for ever in spite of what the milk men tried to do to them.
If it is not a 300 it is from the same family of straight sixes. I've got a 77 F250 with a 300 that isn't real fast but has plenty of low end torque.
There also was a 240 ci variant. The 240 had a stroke of 3.18" while the 300 has a stroke of 3.98", almost square. There were many interesting performance pieces made, mostly in small skunkworks batches, like the billet aluminum crossflow racing head and a strengthened racing block. With improved pieces like that, horsepower figures for normally aspirated, racing gas fed engines were in the 700+ HP range! My avatar car has a crossflow headed 300.
I'm no expert, but, take a 240, bore it .030 and install some 351 cleveland 2 bbl pistons, (flat tops) (have to shave .030 off the top. Throw on a Clifford 6=8 alum. intake topped with a 650 Holley. Put a chet herbert cam in, port the heads a might, use big block chevy exhaust valves (cut down with new keepers cut) plus some 429 ford intake valves, and you'll have a strong, high winding setup. Ps, it worked for me back in 1977. Ask me about the crankshaft sometime.
