Somewhere back in 1957 the Yankees got cheap. They repainted the stadium seats with surplus paint off a Navy contract, some seafoam green nobody in pinstripes would've picked on purpose, figuring they'd get around to spraying it back to Yankee blue before anyone noticed. Nobody got around to it. That green sat there under God and the Bronx faithful until 1966 or so, an accident nobody bothered to fix. Years later I was living in Kansas City and a buddy of mine had one of those original seats sitting in his garage like some religious relic. Seafoam green, except not quite. It was seafoam with the blue bled out and gray poured in. I looked at that thing and something clicked. I couldn't leave it alone. I was working at an ad agency then, so I did what any reasonable degenerate with access to a Pantone rep would do. I had the color matched exact, no guessing, no eyeballing off a paint chip. Then I took a can of it and painted my first office with it, walls and all. That seafoam, paired up with OG-107 olive drab, became the color of Atomic. It was the palette. It meant something, even if I couldn't have told you what at the time. Then I moved to Austin and dropped color altogether. Went stark. Walked away from it clean, no real reason, the way you walk away from a lot of things that mattered once. Now, for reasons I can't fully explain, I want it back.
Congrats on surviving the move and on the new shop space! I'm an 8-hour drive away or an easy direct flight. May try to make it to your future open house.
Glad that you are somewhat moved, it is bone tiring work and then always takes some time to get settled in to the new surroundings. But most of Colorado is a beautiful place to be. Enjoy! And, be careful with a rented shop, they can become "temporary" permanent. I signed a 3 year lease for mine, then extended it for another 2 years and in a few months I'll be talking to the owner about a couple more years. The bad part is that the lease payment always goes up...
I just checked...Boulder Co gets 85.2 inches of snow every year. @Ryan , hope you like sking and cold weather. Much different than Austin. Of course, you could always hit Kauai during those months.
I should take a photo of the one at the shop I currently work at, it is somehow worse looking. Good luck with the new place Ryan, I can only imagine the mental agony that moving that far brings. Those military totes are so cool too!
I don’t love cold weather, but I’m excited for actual seasons and a little snow… I loathe 80 straight days of 100+ temps. Just couldn’t do it anymore.
Did the major cross country move in 2013, then a local 7 mile move last summer. A lot of stuff to move or get rid of. The plus now we wake up with Mountain View’s every morning with the sunrise and a giant shop, when I get time to work out there. Did take on a bigger yard so that takes some of my free time. Good luck getting organized and settled in.
Seems like the dust is starting to settle. Can’t wait to see some pics of the mountains. My eldest daughter spent last week working at a cattle ranch in southern Alberta at the foothills of the Rockies. She belongs there. The smile on her face in the pics says it all. She did make the move last year, and it lasted all but a week, but she is stronger for it and plans to move there soon.
Bravo, flip flop wearing, backwards hat, director of "ATOMIC" World, you now have a definite toe hold on a new place to make the magic, continue to happen! Just curious, did the pallet of NOS union tool boxes make the trip, I ***ume that stack of vintage paper wrapped squares, on the desk may have been them, or did they get liquidated to lessen the load of stuff that had to be moved? I know why. As much as I like it here, the sun in Texas bleaches everything within an inch of its life. Colorado, not so much.
My brother has been moved into his new house at the other end of my lake for about a year and a half. I was over there last Saturday for a drink, we're watching the Tigers game, and in the corner of his living room sat one last medium sized moving box, still unpacked. I said wtf is that. He said that? That's when I decided I'd had enough.....lol. Who knows how long that one last box will sit there....
Just met our first neighbors… Christ almighty. Five minutes into knowing these people and they’re already begging for burnouts the second my hot rod gets here… husband and wife both, standing in the driveway like a couple of kids at a carnival. The gr*** might actually be greener.
Moving ****s but hope you get settled soon. Never been to the states but judging by pictures Colorado looks beautiful. And the new neighbors sound like cool people.

They won't "hold your beer" while you're doing that burnout, but they will hand you another Coors when you're done. My wife has been trying to drag me to Golden since her sister moved there.......... Considering that last debacle at the Denver airport I don't see that happening!
I've moved my shop three times in my life and swore never again. Next time I'm selling property and contents. Open house would give me a reason to get back to Colorado. It's been thirty years since I've been out there, keep thinking I need to head west again but don't do it.
Almost moved to Boulder several decades ago from Michigan but ended up in costal Alabama. My vision of snow now.
Lots to love about Colorado. My grandma was born in Del Norte CO back in the 1890's. She always pronounced it, "Call a rad uh" which is cool to me. My kid was in the USAFA briefly and we made numerous trips to CO during that time and came to appreciate the state. Comparing CO Springs to my hometown, I think I'd take CS every time. My late buddy Bullet Bob (he was long time friends with Jitney Jake and his Bullet moniker was ***igned by no less than Gray Baskerville) moved from SoCal to CO to get away from all things CA and loved it greatly. Bullet's p***ing earlier this year led to a nice celebration in Montrose CO. Driving there in a 60's hotrod was a suitable tribute to Bullet. As were these little window stickers. I hope you love CO as much as Bullet did.
Ryan, so very happy for you, Marcy and the Kids. Enjoy every day as they p*** so quickly. Thanks for the video tour off the Headquarters and Thank You for creating the HAMB of which I have loved for the past 25+ years.
