@Karl Wescott - Echoing everyone's best wishes. This is certainly the end of an era. It's also good to know you're still accepting parts orders/requests and have plans to continue selling some parts in your retirement. Visited your place a couple of times from MN as I have family in the Portland area. You gave us a wonderful tour of the business back in the 90s. This is a pic I took that day - guess I'd be smiling too if I had a cherry Deuce sedan body stashed in a corner! Bought a front fender for our '39 Standard sedan that day and hauled it home on the plane.



Best wishes to you in the future. Maybe once the dust is settled you can find time to be active and lend some of your expertise here on the HAMB? Again, all the best.

Wow is right! This is a huge part of modern hot rodding, and now its gone. Im curious as to how many westcott cars have been built?

 

I went out there and bought a set of fenders (front and rear) for my first 36 5 window when I was 20. Seems like a lifetime ago. End of an era right here. How fortunate was I to have access to what was an icon business in our hobby. I wonder what happened to that 36? Built by a ***** kid, perhaps it is better I don't know. Thanks Dee and company!

 

Sad to see an end to the Wescott story. Even more sad that no-one has stepped up to purchase the whole thing as a walk-in business. Seems odd to me that it was not snapped up. I don't know what the books looked like, and I don't know what the asking price would have been, but what an opportunity missed.

 

I have an old Hot Rod magazine in my collection that had a small feature on Wescott when it first started marketing fibergl*** parts, I think it was an issue from 1958. That's a long time for any business.

 

I don't need anything so no losing. Picking up s****s and leftovers for nearly nothing has a better ROI.

 

My first preference is to sell everything for decent dollar. My second preference is for nothing old to go to the s****per.

 

Growing up in Oregon and always knowing one of the finest was Wescott's right here in Damascus always made me happy. Sad to see it end, but thankful for all you and your dad did for so very long!
The whole hotrod hobby will be diminished by the end of Wescott's era.

Having written for Kit Car in the 80s I can tell you that probably 25% of the bodies they've sold are sitting in garages or backyards in various stages of completion when peoples dreams stalled as they ran into their talent wall.

The last 2 comments, + aging-out(energy/motivation-loss), & probably most importantly, the market(s)/housing crash(s), have desecrated the "discretionary" income(spendable funds), &, of course, the continued/accelerated destruction of the mandated-scripts' purchasing power. If you don't know, since 1913, it's dropped ~99%(read: what costs$1.00, could be purchased w/a penny then. Or, conversely, what cost a penny back then, takes $1.00 today.). Also w/in that drop, since ~2020-ish, purchasing power has declined ~40%. It's not getting any better, so, as the saying goes: "Don't over-expect..." . Yeah, not much left to enjoy with... Not political(& I'm not getting into that bruhaha - damn their ***es anyways...), but practical truth. Sadly.

Sorry to see Wescott go(good quality stuff at the right time), along w/others, but they deserve enjoyable retirement time. Going thru the end of a small "golden age", there are still some good things around, but it's a very different game - in virtually all respects. At least I got to see a small part, & read of more of it.
