Not much going on in my garage.

I recently picked up a 34 driveshaft and TT, wanted one since forever. Not too sure what I'll do with it, but at leasr I have one.

I'm still renovating the house, so I've prioritized my time away from my hobby. Seldom start let alone drive my coupe.

Checking in. Finally got the Model B back together. It’s been quite the learning experience having never worked on an Early Ford before. I’n very happy with the new engine built by Schwalm’s. It has good power and effortlessly climbs inclines, even accelerates up them.
The effort I put into the front and rear springs was well worth it. I rides remarkably well. The Rotoshim shocks I’m sure are part of that equation.
I have about a 150 miles on it so far and will continue to use it for the rest of the season,. I still have plenty to do. I think a 3.78 gear would be a nice improvement.

  7. Glad you like the shocks.
Is that the Dan Price head? I've been contemplating one for the '34.

The shocks are vey nice and have them planned for a future Model A build. I think they are worth the expense. The pickup has Craig’s oil pump and crank pulley as well. Also very nice.

The head is a Dan Price as I wanted to maintain a B style head. It’s nice although I did have some issues with the spark plug threads. I should have run a chaser through them prior to installation. I think you’d be happy with it.

  10. Update from the Great White Dyno

we took 2 cars mod roadster and the lakester(tank)
Plan was to run roadster then the tank
Made 2 p***es in the roadster and found the salt not cooperating
Didn't bring the tank out as conditions marginal

I did see Latugs tank in impound but did not have a chance to follow up with him, hoping he will weigh in

Nothing to report here, though our air cooled German 4 is due to get some attention soon.
I have been slowly moving on some of my extras, I figured any projects/parts that didn't fit into plans, dreams & delusions could go....
I did clean up the fizzy battery terminal on the RPU this week. Hopefully will squeeze in a blast this weekend..

my banger buddy here runs one on his Redster....he got 108 HP at the rear wheels and 101 mph at the Texas Mile.
he had Powell grind him a cam...that was a regrind with a fair amount of duration.
most all the really compe***ive flat head banger guys at the RPM Nationals are running a Brierly head...an other option
there is always pondering to do....

Looks like Steve got a record:

    From SCTA-BNI results page
    313 Stephen Laugtug V4F GS 132.149 144.965 S Laugtug

144.965- upped to old record over 10 MPH!

    Way to go Steve!

Did not see any other V4 records or qualifying.

  18. I have a Brierley head which id like to use but the Dan Price head means I can keep the short stock water pump and fan.

I also s****ped the idea of using a Burtz. I went all “B” in my Model B.

Roughly what kind of cam specs are they running. Would these cams work for regular use on the street or longer distance drives over a 100 miles?
My engine has a Winfield 1R grind and seems a little mild but great for regular use.

We had an awesome weekend of racing at our local track here in Maine this weekend. The bangers were well represented att.SUae4A98lkAAnKIYPiEqG003k09sur4AFbA1ok3xPnc.jpeg

Daily driver van has decided it would prefer it's engine oil on the outside so whilst it sits sulking in a pool of blackness the fleet have been pressed into use. Double b*** transport for a gig on Sunday and work on Monday with the tourer.

    Yesterday was my Honda Dax.
Today - roadster again after fixing the starter.

be thankful you weren't hand cranking it

G Baese, Deutscher and hotrodfil like this.
  26. I normally try to fit a dog for hand cranking. Unfortunately the small crank pulley on this engine didn't have room. I made sure Craig makes the Rotoshim ones with enough space.

The T has developed a hot starting problem. Seems to flood the engine after I switch it off, and is really rich when I restart. Odd. That's how I managed to crash the pinion and bend the armature...
I'm going to change the float valve in the 97 and drop the fuel pressure to see if that cures it.

Late for work so I went for it in the Cream T this misty early morning. On the Thetford byp*** chasing a Transit van who didn't want me to p***. 3330rpm. Not another to be had. 85mph. Oh for a couple of hundred more rpm.
Although it wouldn't pull that gearing over the half mile on sand which is why it topped out at 78 running the slightly smaller 600 x 16 tyres (3200rpm), and only 75 running the 500 x 19 Blockleys (2900rpm).

That’s really impressive—the engine revs like crazy.
    You’ve got it under control.
    Best regards, Harald.

  28. I think 3500 is all it’ll go to - it doesn’t rev like the B engine in my T Coupe. But it’s a good indication of what a fairly stock build Burts engine can do.

I know what you are talking about all too well...
The Grose Jet from Speedway, a needle and seat subs***ute, seems to really help
I don't know how you are set up for fuel pump, but shutting of the (electric) pump prior to engine shutdown seems to help too.....just have to remember to switch it back on prior to leaving or that dying engine becomes the basis of even more ribbing from the chums...they don't realize what a catalyst they are for remembering to do so ...

He installed it at 108 centerline on exhaust with a custom cam gear from @Dan from Oakland
He has fulfilled his goal to drive a 'street driven' Model A over a do***ented 100 mph and now street drives it....it performs exceptionally well for a banger.
He is running a downdraft intake with a Holly 'Bugspray' 200 carb
