Hot Rods New to the scene

Gday from Australia. I am looking at a 28 Model A tourer all original, now I would be looking to drop the front with a dropped i beam. Can I just purchase a 4 inch dropped beam and install or does it need more modifications? I will be keeping the 4 cylinder and putting traditional hot up gear for a pre war rod.

Short answer No, the steering arms and mechanical brake setup needs a lot of changing.

A & 32 .
I do not know if there enough steer are to heat & adjust on a A ?
So one will chime in & post the thread

 

Before spending an Aussie peso make sure you understand how you will get rego. Id also suggest ordering the Tardel/Bishop book "How to build a Traditional Hotrod" whilst its focussed on building an AV8 LOTS of great ch***is info.

Maybe a reverse spring eye and flattened crossmember will get you lower but preserve your brake geometry. Cheaper too, can do all that DIY without extra parts.

Ok this can mean different things.
Is this a running and driving car that “ tours “? This could be any type of Model A.
If so, what type of A Model?

Do you mean a Pheaton? (Fordor Folding top open car)
If indeed it’s a Pheaton, I would enjoy that joker as is!

If it’s a good running and driving car, I would enjoy as is. I would get to know the car, learn the car and make “improvements “ as I go…. If any.

 

Phaeton I believe

 

Put a 32-36 axle in, with 32-35 mechanical brakes. Good cast iron drums, bigger, leave the rear brakes alone, you'll be fine

 

Yes sorry its a Pheaton. I have had muscle cars and V8s and our Aussie Hemi 6 cars now i am older and wanting something more about the trip than the speed

They are called a tourer down here in NZ and Aussie. JW

 

My roadster was a tourer in a previous life still running all mechanical brakes reversed eye front and a few leafs moved below, cast iron brake drums make a big difference.

Welcome! Lots of great info and build threads here on the HAMB as well as on the Ford Barn (sister forum). I also grew tired of muscle cars and was looking for something more traditional.

 

And that's my son in the driver's seat, sadly I am a lot older than he.

 

Phaetons, Tourers in AZ ( A 1927 T is a 'Touring Car", A 1928 Model A is a "Phaeton" in the U.S.)

These are just cool cars. If had one. I'd just drive it and maybe play with the Banger some.
