What is being suggested is what I did to my '32 Roadster. I bought it in 2006 as an amateur restoration project and ended up keeping just the sheet metal and frame. I put it together with hydraulic brakes, '57 283, '39 trans, Columbia 2-speed. No dropped axle. In 2006 Labaron-Bonney was still in business and they provided the top bows and complete stock interior. It's proven to be a very reliable build and a great driver. Too many original cars are built to resemble the current fads and project no authenticity. There are many who appreciate the original cars. This will be a great project to watch come together. This shot was at the recent LARS.
I have 2 , one pretty much oe body parts, the other 1/2 & 1/2 as I find Oe I pull the am, I just grew up most 30's where piced together H -R not to many with straight sheet metal nor paint . Teen age to mid 30's, older ones had nice painted rides. For Labaron-Bonney I like to hear someone would Surface with all the master pattern for oe style interiors
Anthony I have to commend you for p***ing that car along and especially at a reasonable price. There are a lot of “reachers” in the old car hobby, some are reaching for the highest possible price and some build a reacher- a car to be driven and enjoyed. Ethan will build a car to be driven completing the circle that you were the start of all those years ago. Holding out for top dollar can be a double edged sword, sometimes you put cash in your pocket and sometimes you just start a museum.
Thanks Anthony @Aloria85 ! I found out after my first visit to see the car that Anthony is one of the founders of a site called NoMilesLowMiles and so I knew he would be totally trustworthy in holding onto the car until I could send for it or come get it myself. Super appreciate you holding it for a few weeks while I got done on a couple work trips in NorCal.
I got to keep the roadster pic, but some of these other cool photos were from the old owners racing days. And I believe his grand daughter in law remembered him swapping engines in this roadster. I believe the track was somewhere local or close to saint clair Michigan.
On my journey home, I decided to stop at brookville roadster and pick up some parts that I didn’t want to have to ship. I grabbed the whole subrail and floor ***embly, some lower patch panels, some pillar A and B mounts, under trunk panel, trunk corners, tack strip, door skins were back ordered, and so were a couple other parts. I met the owner Kenny, sales guy Steve, and also I believe it was Mike who gave me a whole tour of the place!! How cool. Kenny came out to my car and we went over everything that will make the body solid, so what first cl*** service. These guys are amazing. The bill came and damn that added up fast! You know what though, there won’t be any guess work at this point. I’ll pull the body, clean the frame, lay down the subframe and floor ***embly, and then the Pillar mounts, then attach the body and see what structurally I need to tie in and add to make the thing solid.
Well I don’t want to sound like your mother, but get out of that truck every couple of hours, walk around and stretch. We don’t need any old blood clots getting in the way of this ol roadster build. Congrats.
Not trying to be " Negative" @ this point seem you maybe purchased a B-V body ! all the parts yr replacing , Look into Martin Book Bumping Metal & body tool's . & not taken any thing from Kenny I have ties to Kenny & Pops going back to 79 ish , Finding a Rear Hot Rod is what most of Us drool over , By looks of one of pic from rear The owner could care less about pristine body .
lol. I’m replacing the rust in the lower sections. I also don’t care about it being pristine either. That is the reason I’m going to weld patch panels in, blend, and make look patina. I want the car to be solid. I’m leaving most the dents, but removing bondo. I want the car to appear as a driver/survivor lakes roadster. When you find a completely solid roadster for the same money that doesn’t need any patch panels or repairs, let me know, I’ll buy that one too.
@ECMFab Was not pocking , One of my family members over 60 since 70 & has I think 14 now ,some rust close to 16 inch all the way around some mild some solid .I feel just in last 15-20 yrs 32 have become over priced .I was looking @ a H F one in Calif @ 40 built around 57 I was wanting to take train from E to W drive back , just did not happen that way .. plane not my thing unless private . Pockets limited. Wish /Want , would be last one I would buy is this Roadster
@AmishMike Honestly I do not know the purpose of mudflaps on cars , Not referring to trucks. Living in Country in 70's I do recall seeing many "cars" with May be because many roads Dirt , Gravel & tar chip rock here up until mid 80's to keep other in rear from Brocken headlights , windshield chip paint ?
I got invited to Steve’s house after Brookville to post up for the night on a safe property and talk hot rods. I had never met him in person but I was following him for a couple years on instagram. We met and had a great time talkin about all his sign scores, rare speed parts, and hot rods over the years. Guy is a walking encyclopedia, and is only 41! We smoked some stogies that I brought and even his cats loved the roaster. Turns out a year ago he bought the red 32 pinstriped coupe- that I was just wondering what happened to it just a couple months ago. Small world!! Really neat time and hope to meet up again.
Drove from Ohio and went through Iowa (stopped for 20 mins to visit my cousin and snapped a pic after telling her about the car), then Nebraska, and now Wyoming to stay here for a few days with a friend. I finally slept in a bed after 5 days of driving and sleeping in the truck. I was exhausted! My 47 year old body isn’t super into sleeping just anywhere anymore but I can make it work, esp when a 32 roadster is involved. I pressed on from Ohio and drove until midnight, then had to take 3 naps totaling 4.5 hours. I was watching my arrive by time as I was trying to make it in time to have dinner with my friend when she got off work in Jackson Hole. I ended up driving through a crazy Midwest storm with lightning every few seconds for roughly 12 hours. The storm was pretty much most of Iowa and part of Nebraska. I guess there was a flash flood warning and up to 2 inches of rain expected in some parts. I pulled over as I got to a pretty part of Jackson Hole for a couple pics. I wish the car was running and I could cruise it through these roads!
Great story and road trip. My roadster I did a frame up on over fifteen years back. I was fortunate that the car I purchased had most everything I needed and wanted already. So took it down to bare frame and started over. Without the fenders! Mine is an early Brookville body when they still rivitted the braces etc. The guys over at Brookville are the best! Good luck with the project. Got to love Deuce Roadsters My build photos are on my desktop. Didn’t have a phone back then. Need to transfer them someday. Again keep us posted.
Keep eye on the straps on front axle if no heavy cardboard or rubber in between strap because of kind of squareness
The car looks great, congrats on the find and I am interested to see what you do with it! In Canada, that would be advertised as a rust-free car. We're so lucky that Brookville reproduces a lot of the panels for early Fords, taking down the required skill and time for these projects.
How did the bare metal Brookville parts come through the rain storms in Iowa and Nebraska? 60 Special

Some spots on the new floor are flash rusted. Bummer, but that was too big to fit in the cab! Everything else is in the truck and perfectly fine.
I had left Jackson Hole, stopped in Vegas to stay the night with my cousin. My other buddy happened to be in Vegas like 14 mins from my cousins place so he wanted to see the car. He met us and we smoked some cigars in the 106 degree 930 pm heat. Ridiculous! In the morning I shoved off and stopped by Hudson Joe and Daisy's place in Apple Valley. Nice visit before getting the car all the way home. Offloaded everything and took the rental truck back to the San Diego airport to return it. I ended up at 5,763 miles on the trip!!
That last pic is money! Would've been a touch better with more clouds overhead! Definitely following along for the journey! 3blap.
