To me, hotrods are not full fendered, So milner has that, but hotrods are black with flames, and the kid definitely has some nice flames. Im thinking I would rather have milners coupe, but they are both royalty in the world of cool fides.
If I can’t fix the goofy grill shell on Milner’s ride for this hypothetical then I’d have to go California Kid
I own a full fendered 32 3W with flames . Milner’s is a true definition of Hot Rod , but the Kid was it for me as soon as I saw it roll into town . I told all my friends , I’m going to own one of those one day . I did I best as I could to fulfill the dream .
The only attraction to the old coupes I had until my mid teens, was the dirt track versions. I guess Milner's coupe would have to be my choice, it was much closer to the dirt track coupes I first envision when ever I hear about 30s coupes. Those old coupes that raced on our local dirt track were the only version of the old coupes I ever saw, until my mid teens. Their versions have been burned into my mind since I was a very little kid.
"Hey, I like the color of your car there, man. What's that supposed to be? Sort of a cross between piss yellow and puke green, ain't it?" Well, someone had to say it.....
I can't pick either outright. My answer is "the kid"' '34, stripped of fenders, highboy style, with The flames. Powered by the Milner Manafre SBC , 4 speed and headers.
I like both, however, I think the AG coupe is more of a raw put together by a young guy street racer and everything on it is simple and has a function for street racing. It did have a radio , ah well.
As a young man, a teenager really, I thought the “California Kid” was a hero, you know **** The dirty cop and there’s a part of me that still does. But the 32 was a street racer and at one time I was also, but at the end of 1980 I made a decision to stop and only race at the track. The hero vision I have for it is gone for it maybe I never had it for the car. I hate the radiator grill shell being so low. I have a friend who has built four clones of this car over the years and I just don’t get it.
Milner's car reminds me more of an enthusiast- built rod done in his home garage with the help of a few buddies. The Kid has more of a pro built look to it in my opinion.
The "Kid" has more real miles on it than most any other Hot Rod with Jake's Coupe right there. Both were driven to the Shows, Nats, Etc. The '32 not so much. But Both Hauled the Freight no doubt.
I could only like Milner's '32 if I changed the radiator and shell. California Kid, pretty slick as is. Dave
It's the other way around . . . now "Pro Built Cars" have the "Kid" look! The Kid was built in 1972, in a two car garage behind a small house by a 29 year old guy that worked in a factory.
I was hoping you'd respond on this one. You guys are the Real Deal from the time when Real Deal was just being defined. For young kids like me who just wanted to be around cool stuff, The California Kid, Jakes Coupe, and Jim Ewings. Everything that followed out of it by that bunch is Legendary for the majority of us who were just little Peckerheads at that time. I've been ruined for life. - Thank you.
Both are nice but i don't have a soft spot for flames and i like a nice simple High Boy, so that makes it the AG Coupe for me. JW
American Graffiti has a Mamas & Papas connection as well, as Mackenzie Phillips who played the young girl riding in Milner's coupe, is the daughter of John Phillips of the Mamas & Papas.
