Featured Hot Rods SBC water pump riser

Afternoon
I am needing an SBC water pump riser. It appears that Zip made them, and a company called Snow White. (No word on the seven dwarfs) Apparently the Zip product was bought by Vintage Air. Now Vintage Air says they are no longer available.

Any ideas? I tried eBay.

You aren’t the only one. Multiple threads recently about them.

 

Unfortunately Snow White stopped production a number of years ago. Their riser was based on an Opal water pump. It was a clean looking unit without additional accessory brackets. The early Zipp risers were also available without accessory brackets. Unfortunate that Vintage Air stopped production. So, today it's finding a used one or make one.

 

Such an opportunity for someone.

I spoke to Speedway today and they just list it as discontinued.

 

I called Vintage Air and also Pete & Jakes. Apparently Zip was making them for every retailer.

 

I have what I believe is one of the last units from Vintage Air. The back side of the riser does not have Zip casted on it nor the bleeder hole boss.

 

Did I miss where you said what you wanted for it?

 

The snow white water pump riser was designed for Fords, I haven't heard that the zips was purchased by Vintage Air but the owner of Zips I am told p***ed away and his family didn't want to take over the business.

If I were a younger man I might try to negotiate with the family to purchase the patent.

The fact that no one is tripping over themselves to produce one may be a silent comment on market size and ROI.

Long time ago I read an article, where they mounted a fan hub of some sort above the water pump on a sbc and drove it off the outer groove of the water pump pulley.

If I remember right it was a pretty clean set-up.

I tried to find the article with no luck.

Yes, one of Snow White's first products was a very short version of a Ford water pump. It was used by many racers and rodders alike. It was about two inches shorter than the Ford water pump and was aluminum that saved a bit over 13 pounds compared to the Ford cast iron pump. It also moved the lower hose to the opposite side so a Chevy radiator configuration could be used. They later came out with the aluminium SBC water pump riser that used the aluminium Opal water pump instead of a Chevy six cylinder pump like the Zipp riser.

 

Does anyone have a picture of either setups. Just curious how they look front and back thanks

 

This is the Zips riser for the sbc, it uses a 6 cylinder water pump & raises the water pump up 5" to center the fan on the radiator. HRP

I’ll leave myself out because I’ve never TIG welded nor ever learned via any schooling on MIG welding.

This would be such a simple sheet stock item to produce. Think sheet metal intake fabrication.

 

From here & there are few other way's to raises

 

With laser scanning of an original and mail order printed sand cast molds someone could do a few and make some $$$. The advantage of this is you omit the time consuming pattern making that requires real skill.

 

There is a 32 coupe on the Ruth estate auction that uses some sort of elevated fan hub setup.

No , Not my work / designs .
The pictures I posted are from here that other have posted .
The riser blocks is
Simple made
6 to 7 pieces per side .
-------------------------------
3 pice's of flat plate stock
& 3 to 4 pieces of tube stock with 3/8's ID . Depends on the rise / offset.


The plat is more complicated.
But simple made with hand tools

The thick pice look's to have been
3/4 or so flat Steel plate ,
I would use ABS type of plastic .

Myself over years I have cut water pumps up made things work
Some eye pleasing other just to make functional .
