Technical Needing small GM clutch disc

Trying to overcome the next hurdle mating a Lasalle transmission to a flathead. Needing a 9" clutch disc to work with the flywheel and pressure plate id like to run. 1 1/8" input 10 spline shaft.
Local clutch shop is gone and some searching on rock auto hasnt turn up anything. Any ideas?

 

Option if not available I have in p*** drilled rivets
& changed center's

The stock clutch for a 51 Chevy sedan was 9-1/8 inch. A lot of them had the heavy duty clutch though.
Rock Auto shows a clutch kit while The Filling Station shows a disk.

Or contact these guys Home Page I knew them as Waco Brake and clutch in the 70s when they were a block from the Silos that the home redo folks bought and is the Magnolia silos that everyone's wife wants to stop at. They may have a disk or they can rebuild yours.

Ft. Wayne Clutch used to be the place for clutches. Not so much anymore which is why I suggested Kentucky Clutch. But I've never dealt with them so they might not be able to help. Worth a call. IMO

 

I sent them a message hopefully I hear back they seem promising.

 

Thats actually the clutch kit I had my eye on but was worried about being 1/8" over size. Not sure if the 1/16" over hang would cause interfere issues or not.

 

1.233" is bigger than 1 1/8". I think I'd keep looking for the right disc, because the ones you're looking at won't work.

 

Good catch @427 sleeper , I, as apparently most here glossed over the photos and never noticed the input shaft measurement. The OP wants a disc with an 1 1/4” x 10 spline.

 

1-1/8 has always been 1.125 because .125 equals 1/8.

I put a clutch disk that was just a little bit too big around for the pressure plate. Maybe an 1/8 inch, I don't remember. Anyway, I had a buddy with a lathe turn down the outter edge. It made a hell of a dusty mess, but it worked, and didn't take very long.

 

Which is exactly why a 1.2335" input shaft won't fit a 1-1/8" x 10 clutch disc. He needs a 1-1/4" x 10 clutch disc.

 

I will say that's a spare rather rusty input shaft I took a quick measurement off of. Ill grab a better measurement this weekend off the actual transmission.

 

Would the interface of a 1/16 broader clutch be at the bellhousing? I can recall an aweful lot of posts about flathead to t5 bellhousing needing ground down for clearance. Is there enough meat to make room if you had to?

 

I am using an 1/8" OS disc in a smaller PP. (7 vs. 7 1/8). The disc just barely touched some rivets on the PP. I did a combination of lathe grinding the edge of the disc and rounding one edge of the rivets. Fits now.. Kentucky clutch was helpful, even though I wasn't buying anything from them.

 

Back in the 80's, I mated a datsun 240z motor to a volvo trans, for my 38 chevy. In those days, a good parts man would look thru the books....remember books? and figure out what will work. It ended up some studebaker disc, matched the spline count, but the lining was off by 1/8, or 1/4...I forget, but I ran it for years, maybe 30k miles, sold it to a buddy and it ran for another decade or so. Not sure the end of story.

Also, the "clutch doctor" in North Branch Mn, a one man shop, will make anything you want. google em up

Clutch Doctor helped my friend come up with a pressure plate & disc to replace the direct drive on his vintage dirt track deuce. Came highly recommended and proved to be a good guy.

 

Unfortunately a promising lead from fellow hamb member didn't produce the clutch disc needed. After further hunting on Rockauto I found a 80's 4cyl camaro disc that is 1/8" over sized I'm going to give a go. If it'd dosen't end up working I'll try something else.

 

I got my disc from a clutch place in Portland Oregon to fit the LaSalle trans and my Hemi flywheel and a diaphram Mopar type pressure plate (cover) I think it was 10" disc but don't remember but those guys could get or build anything. Portland guys should recall the business name.

you could cut it down the 1/8

 

It might fit the flywheel and pressure plate just fine, but it still won't fit the input shaft on the trans.

 

My real hang up with having something made up is this clutch being a "get me by" until I complete the engine that's being built for this car which will use a common 10" clutch.
