Hot Rods Milner's or McCord's?

Hands down the California Kids coupe for me. A younger me always thought something was off about milners coupe, being alittle older I now realize what those things where. I wonder if the ch***is and grill shell where from a channeled car originally?

Both cars are well liked by each camp. But, for daily driving and actually cruising, the chopped tops are a bad situation gone wrong. The California Kid has a chop that would feel like a giant stepped on it while driving. This is the feel I got when I sat in this chopped hot rod. The view was not good and it felt awful.

Any chopped top brings the view out of a small window smaller. So, how comfortable can one be inside looking out of that diminished view? Most like the California Kid 34 Coupe because of a combination of things, the cool flames on a black coupe, the lowered rake stance and the simple wheels that make folks look at the flames coming toward you on the street.

But, as far as cruising around for a couple of hours, the chopped top would make it feel just awful and anxious to see what is a diminished view even when it is stock, let alone a chopped top… YRMV


I was given a ride in this fast 1934 Ford 5 window coupe many times. There is no chop and the power in the Oldsmobile motor was loud and distinct. The view in any of these coupes is limited anyway, but the full size windshield was fine for many miles of driving around.

The front opening doors made access to the seats easier than going around the standard door. But, there is no comparison in the chopped versus no chop versions. I definitely prefer a no chop version.

The yellow coupe in the movie was hilarious. Any scene showing the teens/20 somethings sitting inside, shows a cramped compartment. It always looked as if one had to scoot down in the seat to get a good view, if there was any, while going down the road. I have seen many drag racing cars with chopped tops and for a quarter mile, it is fine. It does not last long and that is ok with the lower drag co-efficient.

So, the movie was entertaining, but it was a fantasy movie. No big deal. That yellow coupe was not the best for any kind of short term cruising or definitely not for long distance road trips.

 

Well Juni, Hot Rods and practicality never really did go hand in hand. Just an observation....
Movies are shear entertainment, both 'star' cars hit the mark.
