I’m new to the flathead and electronic distributors. I have a 1939 Ford two door sedan with the original two 221 flathead engine. I’m looking for a good dependable electronic ignition that would work for my car. So I wanted to come out here and asked you guys in the know what works what don’t what companies do you suggest in styles? Like I said I’m a green horn with basic these entire cars. My engine was rebuilt a few years ago and the car sat in the owners garage awaiting restoration. I have purchased new wiring harness, gauges, etc. I’m gonna Va go with dual 94’ carbs, dual exhaust with Smitty mufflers and a set of heads. So please if you could give me some pointers I would be very grateful. IMG_9605.jpeg IMG_9606.jpeg IMG_9607.jpeg

I have a Speedway 3 bolt magnetic pick up electronic distributor on my roadster, it came on the motor that i got for the car, to be honest I really wanted to hate it. But I can’t, I pulled it off the motor and gave it a check over before running it. But I’ve covered well over 3000 miles in the car since getting it on the road in march & has been my daily the last couple months. And it’s never missed a beat. And if you need parts you can pick up a Mallory module to keep as a spare if you got stuck. There’s not much of their stuff I recommend but this is one!

I have a 46-48 239 motor in 34 Ford truck. Have been running a Pertronix converting crab distributor to electronic about 10 years ago. So far no problems, but I do carry a spare if failure occurs on the road. A lot of controversy points vs electronic, and I guess cheaper to carry extra points.

I'm a little paranoid. I drive Howard (32 PU) everywhere with it's Pertronix converted Chevy distributor. I have a spare unit in the tool box in back of the truck. So far in about 22K miles it has worked flawlessly.

Not the same since I have an 8ba in my '39 but I'm running a Bubba (RIP) converted Chevy point distributor. Only issue was a new after market condenser that ****ped out just after it was installed. Replaced it with an OEM one from a swap meet and no more issues.

I put a Pertronix in my 48 Chevy with a 217 Stovebolt motor and it has worked great. Ordered it thru Summit, make sure you follow the directions. its been in a few years now.
