Does the part that clamps on the carb come off from the base ?, I know the clamp itself comes off. I bought an air cleaner that's missing the bottom, but it doesn't look like it was cut or broken off. I'm wondering if they are just a press fit and I can buy another beat up housing for the just 2 pieces I need. I might end up with a piece of muffler pipe with some slices and a semi home made clamp. Here's a picture of an intact one from the internet, but I can't tell for sure and I haven't laid my hands on one yet to check.
I’ll look in a box of parts I have, that air cleaner looks familiar I’ll check tomorrow before I head to work.
Thanks. I found a picture of the clamp alone.......I wonder what size bolt or bar stock that is (5/16?, 3/8?).
I think the bottom of the tube has been cut off. Also, there are at least two holes drilled into the bottom (will leak) and damage to it. The clamp you posted alone doesn't look like the correct one from what little I know. I think the top of the 49-50 air cleaners are the same size but are different style. If you are looking for a stock cleaner, I would try to find a good one. They are readily available. Hope this helps.
No luck from me. Sunday I’ll take a look in a horse trailer out back that I put a stuff in some 15 years ago. Neat thing is I might even find something I can use
I can weld up the holes, have a die to roll a piece of strap around and bar stock to use for an eye bolt. Only thing I need is the pipe adapter.
I haven't done anything yet as I don't need it and there's a couple of swap meets to come still. I did notice that the lower part with the holes on mine don't have oil in it, it's below the oil trough and is totally sealed from the upper area. I think I can see a slight opening at the top of the underside hole around the smaller inner tube....if it is there it's very small (maybe 1/8" all the way around). Anyhow, I forgot to ask for the length of the piece that sits on the carb. From the bottom of the housing to the bottom of the carb mount. Thanks.
