$100, '40 Chevy coupe, nasty g***er style/stance...gotta like that!

1972, I was in Grade 10 when I bought a one-owner 1948 Ford for $400.00, I was making $1.50 an hour at the Gulf gas station. Added chrome reverse wheels and Goodyear Polyglas tires. Took it on a 500 mile solo road trip and broke the engine, limped it home and sold it for $500.00.
The new owner put a 302/C4 in it and painted it. I am told it is in a barn about 20 miles from here but the guy won't tell me where the barn is.
Next purchase was a 1940 Tudor one owner, I was still in high school. It got dual carbs, Wiend heads, Fenton exhaust and another set of chromies.

My first car was an english Ford Mk 1 Zephyr with a Mk 2 engine and mags on the back. It was black but I can't find a photo of it though.

My second car and first hot rod was this C-Cab...


It was 1983 and I was 19. It has a Mk 4 Zephyr V6, Borg Warner 35 auto, Mk 3 Zephyr diff. I had it for a few years and it was my only car for a while until I purchased this from my brother...


It's called the Revolting and was powered by a mid-mounted Morris 1800 engine and a Borg Warner 35 auto with Morris Oxford diff. 1937 Ford front end with Mk 3 Zephyr discs. Twin beer kegs for petrol tanks. The 'tank' on the back was a camper. Here it is at the camp ground during the 1985 Street Rod Nationals in Ashburton, New Zealand...


While I owned both the C-Cabs, this happened to the V6 one...


I believe the main leaf snapped resulting in me hitting a power pole. Quite a lot of damage for a low speed accident.

I got repairs done and got it back on the road and moved it on to the next owner...


While I still had the Revolting, I got this 1951 Chev...



It had a 350 and powerglide with a Ford 8" diff. When I got it, it had been lowered and had wide 14" wheels with low profile tyres, which I changed to '55 Chev rims with white-wall flappers and baby moons. I also added the spats, headlight visors and a functional door-mounted spot light on the p***enger (left) side. This was registered here in NZ as a 1952 even though it was a 1951.

While I had the Chev, the Revolting was p***ed on to it's new owner (who actually still owns it and is fitting a V8 I believe) and I got this 1952 Anglia...



It had a 2000 Ford Cortina running gear and Vauxhall Viva frond end (I think, can't remember exactly).

Eventually, sometime in the mid 1990s, I sold both the Chev and Anglia and I haven't had a 'decent' car since. Hopefully, one day, that will change.

Cool and unusual collection... the crunched front axle/front end looks like it might have hurt!

 

I didn't get hurt at all, just a bit shaken.

It was strange, I was going probably less than 30kmh having just left home in suburban Christchurch, around a gentle bend in our street that I had driven dozens of times, then suddenly, I was in the pole. It happened quickly, but in slow motion... if that makes sense. I walked back home, got my brother and a trolley jack, and we pushed it back home.
