Im looking for dropped spindels for my 56 f-100 beater. I can throw a bunch of money at it and get er down but it's like I said, it's a beater. Wanta keep the straight axel to. Any info. would be a help.
Well, first of all, ya gotta do an intro before you get pimp-slapped....it's a tradition on the H.A.M.B. That being said, the easiest ways are to A) remove some of the spring leaves; B) replace the front springs with monoleafs; C) have the front springs re-arched; D) drop the axle. C) can be an iffy proposition, depending on where you live, although I think Eaton Spring is in Michigan & can do it , or they can certainly make new ones. A) can work OK if you take your time & can stand a few days' downtime. B)....depends on who you ask; monos work much better on F-100s if you have the original Y block, or an FE, 460, something with some weight. The guys with 302s or 350s generally seem to think monos ride like crap. D) has been done many times.
Dropped Spindles on King pins don't work. The added leverage wipes the Bushings out in short order. The Wizzard
Try CPP for their 3" dropped axle. http://www.classicperform.com/Store/1947_59_Trucks/4754DA.htm This would be a good way to go if you dont mind the look of a square tube axle.
Eaton and Posey's both sell up to 3" drop springs for both the front and rear. I am looking to do the same thing and I think 3" will be just about right on both ends.
