Hot Rods Here I go again. 29 woodie

I’ve been waiting for back order piano hinges so I can start building my doors. I ended up putting one coat of spar varnish on the tailgate so I don’t get it stained with my dirty hands. Guys on the national woodie forums say they put 10 to 15 coats of varnish on. Thats going to be quite the process. I also messed around with and original 28/9 pickup sun visor. I cut several inches off because I thought it was way too long and low.

 

Definitely time for a sawdust shop clean out. I received one set of stainless steel piano hinges last week and spent all day drilling and tapping into the metal A pillar. Pretty labor intensive being that I have to drill into the 3/8” steel with out going through and then tap a blind hole with a tapered tap and then a tap that I cut in half so the threads go to the bottom. 20 holes per hinge . Today’s project was the drivers front door ruff out. Lots of adjustments to do and window track to figure out.

 

Man that’s looking fantastic! I bet once you get to the second side it’s gonna go even quicker.

I’m curious if the back fender is stock and how they attach to the body?

I was going to try and use the original sedan fenders but it would have been a lot more work and they had a lot of vibration cracks. I ordered coupe rears.
I made a piece to finish the inside of the coupe fender and they are bolted to the sub rail.

I have the rear upper tailgate door built. Need to take it apart and do all the sanding, routing and glue it up and screw it all back together.

perfect!-how does gl*** mount?

 

I have a dado on the back side. I talked with the guy that has done gl*** for me in the past and he steered me in the right direction on some rubber u channel that the gl*** gets wrapped with and then I will install a stop from the inside.

^^^^^^Just trying to keep everyone safe. Remembering some of those high school "Driver Safety" movies they used to show with the doors wrapped around trees and an ejected driver trapped between the tree and car, heads through windshields. Gruesome as they were they left an impression.

You do know that they make bottom taps specifically for that purpose, right? You can cut down a taper tap, but if a 'corner' breaks off while tapping it can make a mess. AMHIK...

 

I have the drivers rear door roughed in. I have some adjustments to do to get better gaps. Another step closer.

A clean shop is a sign of a sick mind!

 

Been doing a lot of little stuff but going around fenders is time consuming. I now have the quarter panel Frame ruffed in. I ordered bear claw latch’s after I figured out I couldn’t use the original latch’s. I have one mocked in at this point.

 

Have the panel cut and installed. Also put a detail on the curved piece sort of like the original woodies.

I am under the impression that detail was to mimic the rear door opening to complete the radius.
