Hello fellow members. = An extensive, aging out life time gathering of vintage parts and pieces to p*** son to others. I have contacted the Iron Trap Collectors of pennies on the dollar guys. Have any of you fellows dealt with these folks previously? Also, remember if a car salespersons lips are moving he is lying, even if they proclaim deep religious following. Just a ploy of misrepresentation.
Why not have a yard/garage sale advertise her a few people to help and let people have a chance to buy it before the price gets inflated by a middle man?
Wow... kinda came out swinging Mickey! I haven't personally dealt with Matt and his crew at Iron Trap, but I have a close buddy that bought a car body from them, and he was very pleased with them and their organization. He said they were all super friendly and cool, and showed him around their place. I had some pickers come and buy everything from 1932 to 1934 Ford from a small local collection that I was waiting on to go to auction. It pissed me off to no end when it happened because I was patiently waiting... The flip side to that situation is the guy that is in charge of selling it off isn't doing it, and now people are breaking into the estate and taking stuff. I would presume those breaking in are homeless or other people with devils in their closet, and NOT the guys who can appreciate the stuff that's still around. In the end, those guys (generally speaking) show up and bring a large stack of cash and make things move. Yes, they may make money on the deal, but you too are welcome to do that. It takes time and effort to clean, photo and list items, and then to handle communications, transactions, and shipping to make sure things go out safely & securely. The deal for you is the one large lump sum and no more headache, and the deal for them is the parts they can piece out. BUT, that is still work. 3blap.
I wonder how much stuff guys like Jay Leno and Iron Trap p*** on because it is not what they want. The notoriety gets them the call. They have enough common items that fits their interests. I would like to get the call for what they p*** on. The people that locally call me about stuff in the garage usually have used spark plugs and points in the boxes from the replacement parts. Or all the heavy cast iron parts that seldom go bad.
I've only bought individual parts from Iron Trap. But even up here to Canada, their shipping was cheap and fast, and the description and photos were accurate. I imagine that their price offers aren't top dollar because they have to make money, but as has been said you're giving a discount in order to get it gone quickly and without h***le.
I ***ume by your comment of “aging out…” you don’t want to deal with packaging and shipping things out. I get that. If you want it all cleared out, have the places who have the $$ come get it and take things away. You won’t be getting top dollar, not even close to “what it’s worth” , but if it’s time, pocket the cash and say goodbye to it. Let them do the work, sit back in the chair and have a cold drink of your choice. I’m done with selling things, not that I have all this sought after stuff, but would rather just give it away than deal with packaging and shipping
I have dealt with Matt from Iron Trap a handful of times. He has been super easy to deal with and a great fella. Selling parts is what Iron Trap does, so he is definitely not going to give you top dollar. He has to do all the legwork, transport and stocking so all of that figures into the price he gives you. But, if you deal with him, you won't have to worry about his integrity. Good luck and don't forget to give us fellas first dibs on all your cool stuff. -Abone.
My dealings with Iron Trap have been good and the prices on the parts I bought were reasonable, no complaints here.
Ive dealt with Matt and Mike a few times over the years and its been straight up. Things to consider when selling. 1) Prices are not what they were. 2) Selling to someone who buys most if not all your stuff will not nett retail or even close for all the reasons @flamedabone captured. 3) The convenience of dealing with one person can not be underestimated, especially if you have a lot of items and cars to get off.
You know the answer to this Beware of people preaching fear and offering salvation at the same time You see this all the time with sales [the answer to all your worldly problems just happens to be something sitting on their shelves]
I get it, I really do. You have been collecting all this cool stuff for years. Some of it you paid pretty big money for when you bought it, probably because you knew it would be worth even more in the future. So here we are, in that future. You want to see that stuff go to someone that will use it, yea, I have some stuff like that too. Some of the stuff you were sure was going to be valuable, didn't really increase in price like we expected, but some of that stuff we never though would increase in price went crazy. Now its time to send that stuff away, you want to see that guy that has been looking for that part for years, finally get it. You probably don't mind that the stuff we thought would be valuable isn't, you still would like someone that needs it still get it. And that stuff that we never thought would amount to anything, but went nuts on the price, we want to cash in on some of that. There probably isn't many here that do not think the same way, when its time for that stuff to go away. But here is the problem. We may have a pretty big pile of stuff. We have no idea who might want/need what we have. We have no idea how to get in touch with those people. Should we stumble across one of them, we have a problem figuring out how to transfer the money, nor do we really know how to box it up so it arrives safely when send it 1,000 miles to them We don't have anyone near us that we trust to do those things for us, or even help us do them. We have no idea how to deal with a possible problem with the money exchange, or the part delivery! On top of that, we sure don't want to deal with the teenage kid that can't understand why he can't just bolt your part on his $100 to put your part on his turbo what ever, and he can't understand why you won't sell him your part. That doesn't leave us many options. The guys that know how to do this stuff are looking at it as a business that we probably can't fully understand. He knows how to deal with the stuff we don't. He knows how to find the people that need our stuff. He knows how to sell it, he knows how to collect the money for it, he knows how to deal with shipping problems. He knows how to deal with the teenage kid with the turbo whatever. He probably even knows how long its going to take to sell our stuff, and how much money he is going to have tied up in the parts before it sells. Its still pretty hard to hear him tell us how much he is willing to give us for all of our good and our bad stuff. We have bought into the story line from the guys on TV that got busted. "Oh no, your part is worth so much more then you want, we will give you this much for it!" Him saying things like that was probably pretty easy when the parts they showed him buying was not how he was making his money.
If nothing else, watch Irontrap's latest video about how they brought the 1932 roadster once owned by George Delorean back to Detroit to show it to his family now that it's running and driving again. I think it shows the kind of guys Matt and Mike are. It's a great episode.
Good evening members. Thank you all for your comments. The thing is I was not clear regarding my '' stuff'' I began collecting these items in the mid sixties. They were gathered for build purposes at what ever price could be negotiated by a 17 year old kid and I still am. The thing is all these vehicles have clear Louisiana ***les all in my name. They are well along in re***embly status. I am not in a crisis to sell. The aging out would be and is myself. I do think the 32 3 window Ford coup body and ch***is may have peaked their interest. It was bought cheap and I do think it is worth a bit more than I paid for it. A score one might say. Good Evening Members.
I'm about the same age and pretty am getting started at doing the same thing. First is sort out and separate parts that are designated for current projects such as my 48 and the boat tail roadster and get them is separate stashes rather than the mix and match mess they are in right now. Second, separate the "why the hell did I save that? good usable stuff and set it in the get ready to sell it spot. Anyone need a set of nice gray door panels for an 85 Volvo 5000S? I have a set that could be real low cost right now. Then sort out the s**** iron like the mul***ude of coffee cans of head bolts and heads and engine parts that only have s**** value and get them hauled off. Somewhere aloing get rid of a mini panel van and two OT cars after pulling parts I need off the cars.
Wasn't one of the guys @ of I .T .C that bought a 32 5w That was in a old gas station @ Carlisle that was there for 40 ish years ? It way supposed to be a dream car find Then not to long after purchasing it was sold ?
They're in the business of buying cars and parts and reselling them so it's not surprising the car went down the road to someone else. There's already quite a few keepers in Matt's garage.
I think what he was surprised about, was the fact it was his "dream car". If I got my dream car, (or at least one of them), I wouldn't be selling it off.
Yes! In video & going to see check out The potential buyer made such big deal, Because so my p***ed this particular garage /gas station for yrs not knowing a 32 @ entrance to Carlisle on Rt15 ? I even p***ed by @ least 8 times . I think in Video a statement was made if they were able to purchase they would never sell. My self ,I rarely sell if I do it's less then I payed or about what I payed & as of now my thoughts I do not want family to have I feel they just see $$
Now I see…in your first post, you just said “parts and pieces “, there wasn’t a mention of vehicles and the parts and pieces that went with the vehicles. This should make it easier to move things along (imo). If you can put the parts and such together for each vehicle, ie a pile here and a pile there, then list the vehicles and ***ociated parts that go with each. Anyways, good luck to you.
