I picked up this old 27 T roadster hot rod out of Kansas this summer. Always loved a nicely done T roadster...nothing more simple and elegant. The ch***is was a cobbled up Model A mess of country engineering, which was rough but seemed to work for the back roads she used to run. Heres a picture of what I started with: I saved a few items from the A ch***is but it was just about a complete loss. I am working towards this picture found in one of the Dry Lakes books of this simple highboy full hooded 27T: After building a new highboy ch***is shes finally a roller and starting to look like my vision. As you can see its not a slammed low rod, but again something simple and elegant. I am a big fan of actally seeing the rear wheel well just above the top of the tire with a slight forward rake. Frank is in the process of building me up a SBC 301/302 with a saginaw 4 speed for her. He fell in love with my Desoto Hemi and a trade is in the works. I thought of using the Hemi in her but it looked just too big and out of place. Well, shes a roller and out of the closet...let me know what you think.
hey man thats the spittin image of the one im workin on! im using a column shift and 37 dash ala frank mack tho....could you post a shot of the front end treatment your using? ive got a 2" drop axle and rev'd spring on an unsplit 32 w-bone and it just aint got enough rake for me. thanks....al
I've got that same picture of the green car saved a****st a bunch I have found on the Hamb here. I love your inspirational vehicle and really dig what you're building dude. Looks great, and keep it up!!
Heres a shot of the front...A crossmember, 4" drop axle with A reverse eye front spring and 40 Ford bones. I'll be popping the body off soon and starting the patch and stipping process to get her down to bare metal. I have found just the right steering wheel for the build...dont know what it came from but it fits the feel of the car.
Now, that Slacker, fab32, has got to get off his *** and finish the engine. Actually I ordered some parts for it today. I would like to refer to it in the terms of fine wine, the longer it ages the better the result. Wonder how long I'll get away with that excuse BTW, we WON'T be refering to it as a 302, that's a Z-28 motivator. This is an old school thick wall 283 (3 7/8 bore) punched to 4" with a 3" 283 crank. That's a 301 from the old days and it's the proper cube reference for this build. Frank
A 301 it is!! Now Frank I know you need your daily naps, so I wont be pushing too hard. Cant drive her til spring anyways.
nice... so much better looking than all these over channeled 15 inch Z'd cars that are all the rage these days.
Real neat! I've eyeballed the same pic from Birth Of Hot Rodding many times in the hunt for good T roadster references.
Looking real good man, I also like the tire in the wheel well and you have it fitting just right, with the right rake in the front when it's all togeather it will be perfect. Good job man.
The rear is z'd just 3" with the 2 x 3 tubing. It runs a Model A rear crossmember and spring, behind a late 60's Bronco 9" rear end. Its z'd this way so I dont have to cut up a GOOD set of T subrails. Still have to ****on up the frame and finish weld everything. Tack welding is a good thing til you have everything where you need it!
