1955 Nomad Sedan Delivery, a rake with the surfboard inside…



Hello,

During our flathead powered 40 Ford Sedan Delivery days, I always thought of the old saying, “More Power.” The flathead was so under powered for our long road trips up and down steep roads with a full load of surf vacation stuff. Downshifting to 2nd and sometimes when the traffic was heavy, down to 1st to make it uphill on those steep angular coastal highways. It became a “thing:” as we got a running start
from the down sloping highway leading up to the steep uphill grade.



So, thoughts of a more powerful flathead motor that we knew our friends at Reath Automotive always pointed out when we arrived at their speed shop. But, then again, our friend’s 55 Chevy 210 2 door sedan had no problems going uphill to our local “Big Bear” locations with a 265 c.i. motor. Now, leaving the modified flathead motor idea alone, a new aspect of surf transportation was in the works.

I could start with a small 265 motor and as the need arose for more power, a cam, lifters, port/polished heads, dual quads and headers would be in line. That would definitely give me more power for those uphill angular sloping highways. Just a little extra foot pedal power and up we go… yes!

The surfing road trips were front and center all year long and it would have given us plenty of space inside, more power and comfortable bucket seats to boot. YRMV


Even a 1955 Nomad Sedan Delivery, low cruiser mode, was a possibility…

A low, rake stance

My wife and I almost purchased a 50 Ford Coupe. It was a nice black color and had chrome wheels on blackwall tires. The inside was a mohair color and not too worn. But, we did not buy it. My wife gave me the “high eyes” signal to get out of the garage. She told me later that the guy selling it was not so nice in the aroma stage and made the interior smell. Ok, so she was right.

So, we searched again a longboard had to fit inside, so we settled on a sedan delivery. Ok… that lasted until our family grew and the sedan delivery no longer worked for us.

A full scallop design with some cuckoo detailing to fill up every inch of the body...

A custom 1950 Ford Station Wagon with a Nomad look would be a nice addition to our daily drivers. If we still wanted to go back to our sedan delivery roots, then it could be done easily. A custom wagon/sedan delivery for all with some stylish parts…YRMV

or, a sedan delivery low rake scallops and some advertising to boot...

 

It took me years to really appreciate vehicles with 4 doors, and especially tubs. It wasn't until I started going to the annual "CHRR" at "Famoso", that something really caught my attention, as you see here. I have a totally different at***ude about stock and custom tubs now!

Another Friday already! Time flys when you’re old for sure. I have a stack of drawings in my garage that I had done for the HAMB Friday Art Show. The Art show gave me a purpose to draw. I’m grateful for that.
I was thinking of bringing them to Hershey this year and giving customers a drawing of their choice. Problem if it’s wet or windy. I did this once before and it was more trouble than it was worth. Your thoughts.
Well back to business. Here’s this week’s entry.
