Projects Anyone done a seat in white? Do you regret it?

No regrets with the white interior in my '40. Not a "daily", but driven often for shows/cruise-ins and club activities for 6 years and 7 thousand miles so far. The material is Ultra Leather and is fairly easy to keep clean.

 

For those that can always have clean hands an pants*,white is fine and looks nice.
I told my son that,when he told me he wanted white in his rod { Dad an Son build of his T-Bucket }
It's his rod,his way,so I helped with all white upholsrety. His is still pretty clean*.but not put to use much.
My own rod seats are Black with Yellow panels*,I have a lot of work,trying to keep the yellow clean,only a little less then white { the yellow is so were you sit,is not burning hot from the sun { Miami Fla. }

 

I have only paid to have one interior put in a car in the last 25 years or so and it was white tuck and roll in my 52 Chevy that I had when I met you years ago. The only issue I ever had with it was my belt would leave some black on it that could be hard to get off. I did put a Mexican blanket over the back seat since I had two little boys sitting back there in car seats most of the time. Anyway, white was the only color I considered and I didn’t regret it. And, you know how much I drive my cars.

 

And obviously not with screwdrivers in your hip pockets

 

White interiors really make the outside "pop" on cars and trucks, and I'm going to be switching the Merc from the current red to white pleated vinyl myself....I've had white interior in my OT "speed of sound 1" for the 34 years I've owned it, and have over 100,000 miles on it. If you don't get into your car filthy, then it's not difficult to keep clean at all. The arm rests (or top of the door panel depending on the ride) are the only part that seems to need cleaning after every 5th or 20th drive.

 

That's a wild interior, I like it. People are talking about how hard it is to keep white seats clean, how about white pedals?

A simple solution is to keep an old bath towel in the car that you can sit on for those days you don't feel as fresh. If you have bucket seats, pull a T shirt over the seat back.

 

I liked the white, Especially when hot out..

 

I’m a white guy…. Wait let me rephrase that, I’m a white interior kind of guy. 70 B5 blue GTX and a 65 Pontiac GranPrix. I love white interiors and don’t mind the little extra work to keep them that way. No new jeans, no dirty clothes, no food or drink were my only rules.

 

First question, are you going to use your truck as a truck? White interior looks great and I'm always happy to see it in other people's cars. But with all the issues I juggle in my head whenever I drive one of my vehicles, I don't want to add "What am I wearing?" to the mix. Currently putting a seat in my '29 CCPU, it will be dark ox blood.

 

Love white interior! Had a 66 Chevelle with all white interior and have all white in my coupe. Although the seat is the only upholstery in the coupe, the rest is paint. On a side note, anybody know what will get ink out of ultra leather/

 

Brenda & I have been happy with the white material we used in the Ranch Wagon, like Mark said, clean it once a year or if I see a stain I will address it at the time.

All these white interiors look amazing. Would I put it in my car? Nooooooo #$&_ing way..... Lol. I'm too dirty for that.

 

Reupholstered my dinning room chairs with white about 10 years ago. In those ten years we had kids so while it’s not a car I’m gonna say the level of dirty possible is close enough. They still look brand new I give them a wipe now and then if I notice anything. Anything stubborn a magic eraser will take right off.


If you don’t often have ink or grease/oil on your pants your probably fine.

I bought a gorgeous '69 Chevelle long ago that was marina blue with all white interior. I was constantly cleaning and treating the white, and it didn't take long to never look perfect no matter how aggressively I kept after it. Only way I'd own white interior is if it was some trailer queen show car that never got used, and that's sure not my cars.

 

My 57 T-Bird had an all white interior and I sewed white into my Model A interior. It wasn't hard to keep the T-Bird seat clean and not hard so far on the Model A.

 

My 2 cents worth. I know I'm not as cool as Mark. LOL. I have had pure white and off white. This pic is my 48. The paint is Ford whimbolen white and the seats are ultra leather brisa in off white. No regrets.

 

Had a 66 Impala SS with all white interior and a 72 Grand Prix with a white interior. Both were good looking but I kept after them maintenance wise.

 

Twenty plus years in the coupe. Red white pleat a rolled. Noted loading some Dr.Peppers in the front seat today the seat could use a cleaning.. would do it again in a minute. Well might have been a bit dirtyp

 

It’s like black paint jobs, just takes a bit more effort but cool is worth it.
Seats in my Olds were upholstered 30 years ago in white Pearl still look pretty good considering the top is always down and they get grimy and I sweat on hot days.

The seats in the pick up are mostly white Pearl.

 

White or partially white always say CUSTOM to me but when I mentioned putting a mostly white interior in the 48 my wife is the one who said it would get dirty too easily.

 

I know you’ve got b*** fishing down in ok. I’d find a marine upholstery shop and look into a white marine grade vinyl. A little more money, but a lot tougher. Probably be a better choice for a truck, and stand up to cleaning better.

 

Mine is actually B3 Chrysler blue, so the white seems like a natural.

 

I am looking into marine grade. I buy a lot of stuff from Sailrite.

 

the interior in my 61 Dodge is light blue vinyl with darker blue cloth. after 30 years of ownership and 30 thousand miles and 4-5 years in between as my daily driver it is filthy. white looks good in other peoples cars, but not mine.

 

I like white seats...... in other people's cars.

I'm not bad-mouthing white upholstery, guys. Somewhere around the mid-1950s, white started to be used, especially in 'Show' customs and rods. You had to have it..... like it was a law or something. So it is traditional in that sense. That's just a general comment because there are always outliers when you're talking about style, etc.

These are the sort of oyster white seats I inherited from the previous owner of my '50 Chevy panel truck.
The color and the vintage of the seats are a little too Street Rodish for me....... but I'm poor, so it is what it is for now. I have some saddle-colored leather that I would like to use to maybe redo someday.

 

Here’s one I did in Oxblood and ivory
If the exterior of the car is lt blue I’d use the lt blue material for the insert and make the bolsters off white, it would look great
Then you’d have blue/white/blue
As opposed to blue/blue/white if the bolsters were blue
Just my humble opinion
I love a white interior

 

I've had a couple, common sense applies, do not get in the car with dirty work clothes on. White looks good IMO, the one I do not recommend is black, looks good but if a car sets in the Sun, a real PIA, LOL
