Projects Just A Big Model (T)

I’m gonna be honest. That’s the least *** hole parking job I’ve ever witness you doing. Or at least the bottom 3.

 

haha you would think I was parked in the presidents spot, cause they had two people tell to move it "after it cooled off"

lucky for me it was hot all day.

Im just surprised you didn’t move it to the gr*** next to the tent and under the tree.

 

Not enough room, and even LESS approved.

 

I decided it was time to figure out what was wrong with this thing.

I made time to get the roadster up on the cribs Sunday, and yanked the trans out of it.



I also dug my spare trans from @CoolForSchool58 (this time a .72 overdrive!)



And after doing some polish to the main case, I swapped the tail housing and top plate off the polished transmission.



At this point I checked my pilot bushing and found it to be fine. so I readjusted my clutch and prepared to ****on it all back up.



Once I had cut the splines deeper on the input shaft, I cut the tip of it (leaving 3/8" more than the last transmission), and cut 7/8" off the throwout bearing collar.
I hoisted it back into the car, and got it mated to the bellhousing, only to find out I had never bored the holes out for the bellhousing bolts.

so, all the way back out again, to drill the holes out to 1/2" and then stick it back in the car again.



After I got it back in, I took a break and put baby girl to bed, then came back down and ****oned it all up.

I was so tired I didn't even take pictures.

I also took it off the cribs, and did the little dance to get it back down to the ground.

hopefully if it's not raining when I get off, so I can take it for a loop and see if I fixed the problem.

I'm trying to get it set so I can go to the grand opening of the new "International Model Car Museum" In the Speedway Motors/ Museum of American Speed this Saturday.

should be a good time.

Well, on the upside I’ve got a guy that should I ever have a troublesome t5 I can probably call and get an answer from now.

 

I really should have engraved a phallus or something on that thing before I handed it off.

 

I wish you would have too, cause you would have had to clean it first.

It was so grungy, I probably have 3 hours in cleaning the main body of it. . .

Hey, bja;
Have you ever checked the bellhousing for proper indexing(runout)? That can cause a host of issues. Sorry, I forgot what all the trans problems have been... ;( .

I haven't done that with this car, but part of that is that I would have to take the motor out to get the bellhousing off,
So instead I just plead ignorance.

Looks good to me! I went a little overboard, but I also look at mine alot.

well I got news!



Its good in all 5 gears!

We needed to pick up my wife's car from the shop, and I decided to use it as a test run for the new trans.



It performed flawlessly.

my buddy has a eclectic collection of stuff to work on.



On the way home, free of judgment, I wound it out a bit.



MUCH BETTER! 2600@ 80mph. a full 400rpm drop from before.

and at a more average cruising speed, its even better.



I'm more than happy with the new setup, and on my way home I drove around town a little bit, and didn't hear any noises like before...

so ..... Fixed?

That should be a long distance cruiser now!
I can't bring myself to add another pedal, or I'd take your lead and try that.
I've got misfires again, have a feeling I'll be swapping valve springs.

 

Its the same gear ratio I had on my trip to Bonneville last year. it rolls 80 easy while getting good milage.

A good weekend and another 260ish miles down!

but you guys don't keep coming back for the words, you want pictures.

I went up to the Museum of American Speed (in Lincoln NE @ Speedway Motors)
for the grand opening of the newly relocated Model Car Museum.

So I figured it was only right to install a new sticker for the event.



I left out about 7 Saturday morning into some of the thickest fog I'd seen in awhile.



but by the time I hit the interstate, it had mostly cleared up.



It was cool enough I even needed a hoodie!



I got to the museum and parked around 8:30, and didn't come back outside till 1pm

IT WAS HOT.



I made it the two miles or so to the dairy queen and had lunch, and more importantly, Ice cream.

then i started to head home, in a heat advisory, in a roadster.

did I mention it was hot? it was 100 degrees, WITHOUT the heat index.

I had to pause in Auburn just to cool off under a shade tree for a bit.



I made it home without much incident, I stopped to help a friend that had a flat tire, but (luckily for me) he had just finished changing it.

on the way home, one of the times I put my foot on the clutch pedal, it nearly slipped off.

"thats weird" I thought. "why is my foot wet?"

so when I got home, I checked the floor, and there was, in fact, a leak.



that could have ended poorly.

I cleaned everything up, and snugged everything down, and I'm guessing the aluminum residual valve failed, cause the more it tightens, the bigger the leak.

luckily mike had one in stock and is brining it down this week.

Its too hot to go outside anyway.

Yikes! Glad you caught it, I always had a hard time getting the red/blue ones to seal up. Hopefully the new one gets it sorted for a long time.

might be time to add an e brake lol

 

I need to find a TT frame. This is a great build

 

I haven't had any issues with it in 24,000 miles. but I guess that's the game.

I have another rearend with a full e-brake setup, I've just never got around to installing it..

well, I drove the roadster to work on Friday, and was promptly reminded that clouds= rain



but I had my tarp so it was ok. it only rained after I removed it.

Saturday morning I went out and helped mike on his truck project



we fought linkage woes on the clutch and leaks and linkage on the brakes all day, but at least the view outside the garage was ok.





after driving back into town for lunch, I wound up putting another 45ish miles on over the weekend.

and it looks like today may be the only solid day this week, so I buzzed it to work today.



sure beats driving my truck.

One of these days if we meet up, I would like to measure this for ideas. Im gathering parts for a similar build.

ANOTHER ROAD TRIP!

It started Friday night as a hobbled around the shop packing for the trip, after finishing a 65+ hour week at work.

After a short sleep, and breakfast with the kids, I rolled out.





It was smooth rolling all the way up to Speedway in Lincoln.





I had a few parts to pick up for my Rambler project (HERE)

and I got to have a good chat while loading with @Jigger







I loaded up and headed back out as the thunder rolled.

and as soon as I got on the highway north, it hit.




luckily I was moving, so the rain on my stuff was minimal.

after a short hour drive, I made it to Valley and My buddy Erik's place.

we wrenched on a 48 ford for a bit, and I rode with Jarrett to lunch in his newly running sedan.





We hung out at the shop the rest of the day, and into the night.





After a late night drive to Erik's house, and another short sleep, it was time to go to Jam 'N' Gears in south Omaha.





unfortunately, about a mile from Eriks house, my car ran out of gas.


Luckily Erik was up already and brought me fuel.


There's something especially ironic about running out of gas, while hauling another gas tank.





Then after a short stop at a gas station in Bennington, I cruised down to south O





The lot was already hopping, and later in the day they would top out at over 200 cars!

I drove up to my corner, and set up my wares.





Somebody even got a rare photo of me sitting down.





For those that don't know, Jam'n'Gears is run by the South Omaha Turds car club, honoring the late **** Warsocki, and with alot of hard work from our own @rob lee and his Freinds and Family.

If it's not on your radar, It should be.

While getting ready for the show, Rob also was finishing his newest hot rod, a roadster this time, which took it's first drive to the show sunday morning.







And even though I was tied to my table most of the day, I still got to see some people roll into the overflow lot.







But eventually traffic died down and the time came to load up.

I reorganized things, cause I picked up an air filter housing, a pair of valve covers, and a set of ram horn manifolds from @hot-rod roadster







and with a few goodbyes, I was on my way.





I made it home without incident, and slept like a rock.


I've got Greaserama this weekend in kansas city.


will I see YOU there?

Yeah, there's *something* to be said(I'll leave that one alone - for now...) about both Vaporous Sunshine, & it's bad cousin Liquid Sunshine... both can be useful, or a major "inconvenience", at any given time... .

I have a few stickers and some smaller stuff, I've never bothered making a nice piece of art work of my roadster.

I probably should.
