Technical 1931 Pontiac build - 25 years and counting

I just read the entire thread. All I can say is WOW, what a build and what craftsmanship. Can't wait to see the body in paint.

 

Work slowly continues. Gas tank and engine installed and bodywork is in progress.

 

you make the body even close to the finish on the frame and you will have a showstopper !!

 

White ceramic coated long branch manifolds installed and then the rest of the exhaust system was mounted, clearanced, and adjusted until we were satisfied.

 

Is that an Offy 2x4 manifold? In line with all of the rest of the outstanding details, I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a Weiand, to match the valve covers. Even the dollies are painted to match!

Thanks. You are correct, intake is Offy. But the dollies just happen to be red, not a match for the color of the frame.

What kind of nails did you use? Did you use any adhesives wood-to-wood or wood-to-metal?

You have done a magnificent job.

I have 1936 Chevy pickup with wood framing (but steel door framing). I previously had a 1934 Chevy PU - all wood body framing and the doors were enormously heavy with the wood framing...

 

Not a lot new to report. It’s been a rough winter.
I installed heat shields of above the exhaust and then added XMat to cancel out any droning. Finishing up the bodywork is painstakingly slow.

 

Thank you. I did use wood glue on wood to wood joints except the window regulators or anything else that may need to be removed for service.
I did not use any adhesive to join the wood to metal.
In some areas I used what Ace Hardware calls “boat nails”. They are bronze ringed nails and should hopefully impervious to weather. In other areas I cut down coated paneling ring nails. In each case I had to pre-drill the hole for each nail with a smaller diameter drillbit because the nails would either bend or break off when trying to hammer them into the oak and ash wood that was used.
I was unable to source any of the 3 or 4 sizes of screw nails that I removed from the car during dis***embly until after I had the body re-mounted to the wood.

 

I really appreciate all the time and effort you've put into this frame. It turned out beautiful (but, of course, you didn't need me to tell you that; you've got eyes and can see for yourself).

Been a minute, fine tuning the body for paint has been wearing me down, but I think we have finally turned the corner. Everything is cover ed with the final coat of primer. The doors and hood must be sanded yet, but we were able to get the firewall painted with Wimbledon White. Pictures don’t show a lot of progress, but it’s a major milestone for me!

Why don’t people use ermine white on GM cars? Looks great by the way, I’m a big Pontiac fan!
