The fast, local hot rod drag race sedan with identified names on the side. Reath Automotive, Jocko's Porting Service, and the current owners/racers: Rundell/Braskett. Bixby Knolls or down the street in Long Beach for known speed parts on 10th street and Cherry Ave.

This Model A Sedan was the key to our first chosen Model A Coupe purchase. My brother and I constantly saw this Altered Sedan fire up in the staging lanes and make some pretty outstanding runs down the Lion’s Dragstrip lanes.

It had gone through the whole series of owners from the early days to the last time we saw it in 1960.

We may have seen this version at Lions in 1958, but the photos/movies never showed the hood off to showcase the motor. It had to be the loudest motor in the whole pit area when firing up or making a short run down the staging lane and back.

"Koenig and Sundin sedan, usually ran an injected Chrysler, this shows a blown Olds with the sidedraft carb setup that Joe Reath used on the Raker's Car Club Chrysler. Koenig and Sundin and the Rakers both had Reath sponsorship so this may a merging of two projects, one the car and one the engine. It looks like the blower is driven by a single chain."

So, my “secret” filming location was standing as close to the whizzing racers from the Orange tower side location, but low and next to my friend, Mr. Childers, the white Pontiac Ambulance driver.
It was a great location and so close to the whizzing, loud race cars on the track.

Steps away from the whizzing by, extremely loud Ford Sedan with a long line of owners and a Reath Automotive sponsorship.

I am still looking for recorded sound from the white Model A Altered Sedan from Reath Automotive. It had to be the loudest sedan motor sound, ever. At least 90% of the people, including the racers in the pits covered their ears when it fired up or staged in front of the bleachers. When they took off from the starting line, watch out!!! Pure drag racing from this historic time period.

Nearing the end of the 50s and early 60s, a car dealer in Long Beach gave sponsorship.

Then, just Reath Automotive, and the Dosser Bros sponsorship. (owned a Jeep dealership in Long Beach, Dosser Automotive)

This Altered Sedan was the first in a long line of Reath Automotive sponsored race cars. The list of sponsored race cars led us to make Reath our home court for parts and of course, wise advice from Joe Reath, even to us teenagers.

At Lions in 1959-60, there was this sedan that just made everyone look when it came to the line. It was once the Koenig/Sundin sedan, Reath/Maillard (a great combo), and the Dosser Bros chopped sedan. Eventually, it became known as the Dosser/ Reath Automotive sedan. You could not walk by it in the pits without stopping to look at it. It had a white body, yellow frame, yellow wheels…what a set up. It was very loud and fast...YRMV

 

Well that's one way to deal with lower panel rust.
