1966 Nova Wagon (are we ever really done?)

so new plugs ( NGK's) today.... ran great... but will be adding a Holley 1/4 thick gasket.. the thin gasket just does not seal the carb well to the manifold.. .. still getting a vacuum leak ....

 

So put the 1/4" carb base gasket in this afternoon... think we have the carb vacuum leak fixed...

 

so not much to update. other than.. I sent my other pair of American Racing Crowfoots down to California to have restored and narrowed to 15x5" .. I want to run smaller tire up front.. the fronts just look to big to me. My buddy is going to loan me the same fronts he had done with the tires he's running on his 66 Nova SS. see if the tire size is what I like before I buy a pair... now I just have to hope, the replacement carb renew paint from Eastwood will match.. That's the gold I used on the spokes. I really like the color. But Eastwood reformulated it this year... fingers crossed the color didn't change.. I try a little spray out first fingers crossed.. hopefully have them back 2 weeks

Agree, a friend had a white 66 wagon with a roof rack, was a good looking car.
They are extremely hard to find.

so, my buddy and I are going to install a Holley 4150 750cfm 4 barrel in the Nova... The car has an 850cfm right now... I ordered a new one and it came today.. I think the 850 is just two much carb for it driving around town...the 750 is double pumper, square bore.. with mechanical secondaries.. manual choke ...like the 850.. will report back

 

LOL... got side tracked by the Estranged CC Drags in Toutle this past weekend.. was a great time... will get after the carb swap this Saturday.. The Drags were great

 

ok I'm a slacker still haven't got around to putting on the 750 Holley on the Nova... have Friday and Saturday off .. so, need to get it done. and fine tune it ...and see what we come up with. I think the only reason Blueprint put the 850 on it was to get that 505hp number. may sacrifice some HP but I think it will be a little better driver with the 750. below 2200 rpm it's not happy... with that 850 carb... will report back

 

Well got around to putting the 750 carb on the Nova yesterday afternoon...I think it's going to be a lot more happy with it, than the 850 Blueprint installed..needs a little fine tuning... but pretty happy with the results so far... still waiting on my other set of Americans had them narrowed and restored... 155/80-15 skinny fronts...

 

So went over to my friend Mike R....he checked a few things out for me...we discovered the secondaries weren't opening at all... probably didn't on the 850 that was on the car...Mike adjusted the rod...had the correct hardware for the linkage to mount through...Mike has been a wrench for over 40 years... he's really sharp...all of his modifications woke the little Nova wagon up....it's pretty scary now.

 

So I don't want to take the brake master cylinder out... the previous owner never painted it... not it looks like ****... .. I'm guessing maybe use one of my small steel brushes and bust down the surface rust.. mask the area off really well and primer and paint it.. unless someone has a better way to do it.. let me know.

Went for another test run this afternoon with my buddy Art...that's his super sano 56 210 2dr.. dual quad sbc powered...Nova is running like a champ...
