History Tracking Down History - 16" Lyon Caps

I'm currently trying to track down the history of Wire-wheel Lyons caps. Does anyone know anything by any chance?

 

There is a patent you can find on google. I have what I believe to be a dealer display cap with a ring like a key ring attached on the edge, i ***ume to hang a sign or price. I'd love to find a photo of one hanging in a Ford dealer if you run across any.

Retson, your pic shows repros. Real ones aren’t held on by the center cap. They have tabs on the back that snap over the wheel center.

Another easy way to spot a repro is that they are all painted. Missing the stainless trim ring on the outer edge.

 

Heres a couple of screenshots that Ive saved. From what I know, they were made for 17” 1933-34 Ford wire wheels and 1935 16” ford wheels. Ive been lucky enough to have a set of each in my collection

 

I was lucky enough to obtain a set courtesy of our esteemed friend @Hitchhiker and they do not have a stainless ring...but it is possible that they used to have a ring, although I have been told they came in a few variants.

The other noticeable difference between these and reproductions is the profile of the concentric curve around the wheel center.

 

Interesting. I’ve seen totally chromed ones that didn’t have the stainless band, but never painted ones without. I guess I was wrong.

Be sure to use speed rated binder clips for the final install!

 

They were available in painted. Painted with stainless band and full chrome.

 

I have a set of 17s on my truck. Your set would be the only other 17s I've heard of.

 

The ad above baffles me. It talks about adding style to the Ford for 1953. Why would some company be making accessories for a twenty year old car? It says 1953 three times. Did they make a typo three times? I always thought they were introduced in the mid 30’s.
