WOW Jeff perfect timing I just got back from Lloydfest and there were three very fine young men in this hobby. I really enjoyed watching and visiting with these three guys. I should’ve took a pick of all three standing together, next year I will!

Yep, no doom and gloom here either. Apart from the weather!!! Last weekend we had races at Pendine and Bridlington.

 

WAY COOL!!!! Maybe we should focus on this hobby being fun again on a budget and including kids if we want it to go on?

I agree wholeheartedly every time I’ve taken an interest in a young persons car -usually a tuner type thing- they really appreciate it- They really aren’t different than we were. Just a different look.

The p***ion is there, sometimes they just need a little help from the older generation to get things rolling.
My grandson on the day we gave him the old car.
He has a job, a wife, and two young boys, and now the car he got to watch get built! He has been driving it every day since the end of June.

 

This is my son. 15 years old, and helped me put together this 28 RPU from mostly left overs and junk parts. I can't count the number of p***es he made throughout the weekend, and he had a blast despite the fact that it was one of the slowest cars there. We're now on the hunt for some hop up parts to wake up the stock banger s little.

 

That homemade rig with the Nail Head motor gives me ideas for my grandchildren and I have a 364 in the pile. Hmmmm.

 

***ume that a kid wants an old car. Old is relative. Like for most people a 2015 model is old. But the deal is where can a kid buy a old car for less than $10,000? Lot's of young guys are into cars but they don't have any nostalgia for what was. Nothing to relate to. Even if the rare kid wanted a basket case rod they go for at least $15,000 now.

Today's young guys are buying used Dodge Chargers, Mustangs, Camaro's, or even 2005 era GTO's if they want to go fast with V-8 power. Little expensive for some so they move to affordability. You can buy a decent Hyundai Veloster for $6000 and put on a loud exhaust and wheels and go man go. Millions of hot rod Honda's out there. It's just a different scene and I can hear the grumbling from a lot of old guys.

Those old drag cars and bombs are cool but just to watch. Everything changes and as the old duffers die off we lose something that can never be replaced. Most of us grew up in the era of rods and muscle cars, we actually owned 55 Chevy's and Mustangs. It's a reminder of our youth and what was, and a time that will never happen again. Cheap gas, American iron, open roads, burning rubber. Drive in movies, a new Edelbrock manifold for $40, a set of Pos-A-Traction tires with chrome reverse wheels, 8 track players, and 2 cheeseburgers, fries and a Coke at Macs lounge for a dollar. It's time to embrace the changes and be thankful that we lived in a time when Detroit was king, and cars were a part of our life. These kids will never know what a magical time it was.

 

The hobby dies one at a time usually of failing health or old age. It grows from son/daughter to grandchildren to great grandchildren. Sometimes all in one photo. Great grandpa is relegated to take the photo.

 

We were at the Top Secret Drags Saturday and did notice lots of younger folks.

@Jeff Norwell We sat beside the nailhead powered rail while we took a break, not sure that I would have made a run on those slicks.

 

I was thinking the same with the surplus 322 I have on a stand.

 

I took my 2-year-old to a small local open house cars and coffee in my 46 on the long weekend. This past weekend she was asking when we could do that again.
