The wife is healed up enough that she is telling me that she needs a break from me and to GO.
I've been picking away at the '31 Vicky, going over my pre-trip as I usually do....and I believe she is ready...even got a magnetic holder on to the cell phone thingy that looks like it is going to be well worth the price of admission of eleven bucks and some change from wally world and even a very helpful, engaged young man to help me with the purchase...
I plan to take a more relaxed trip out to Santa Margherita, CA with arrival on my fourth day, Friday the 18th....the event on the 19th and a two day return of 955 miles or so
Gonna' do as much of Old US66 as I can in the process is the plan until I get to Bakersfield.
The down side to all of this is that a majority of the miles will be on I-40 and the 18 wheeler traffic is insane since they made it a 'port corridor'.....I am reluctant to drive other than daylight hours now as all the hot weather and big tire pieces in the driving lanes
I'll try to take you along ....or that is the plan in my head

An old concrete, FAP marker for US66 through Tijeras Canyon that is a mile east of our place and the start of the trip IMG_20260915_073941077.jpg

If possible, could you give some information on your photo locations? Some are obvious, and some I recognize, but not all. Best wishes for a good and safe trip.

See you there- look for a blue '29 roadster with red wire wheels. Have a safe trip! We're not bringing the sprint car this year.

Just so that everyone will know what a FAP marker is, those letters stood for Federal Aid Program, that denotes segments of the road were built or improved using federal funding!

Take the original 66 through Oatman, AZ. It's a fun road east of there where you won't be bothered by any 18 wheelers. Make sure you don't put Rancho Santa Margarita in the GPS you'll end up in Orange County.
9000 Yerba Buena Ave, Santa Margarita, CA is the address of the old land grant for Santa Margarita Ranch.

Just some old buildings US 66 in New Mexico then Continental Divide where you run out of old 66 and have to climb on I-40
I believe the Waiting Brothers sign is in Manualito...then a couple corralled me and they are traveling in a '69 Dodge motorhome IMG_20260915_094302885_HDR.jpg IMG_20260915_094719117_HDR.jpg IMG_20260915_095110237_HDR.jpg IMG_20260915_103730841_HDR.jpg IMG_20260915_103753847_HDR.jpg IMG_20260915_105651221_HDR.jpg

  21. That stateline complex has gone through a change or two in the last 50 years. In the 70's and 80's I spent a lot of nights there waiting for my log book to catch up with me.:D:D
    Travel safely, young feller!

Yes it has Ben...and so have we...I really miss the old Speedies there, it is now a T/A...and gas was $4.87 there and diesel was $2.00 more...left a fuel cap there one night after fueling...when I should have been sleeping..

I always enjoy your company Tim...

Still too early for the breakfast bar at the hotel in Flagstaff...I am used to a different time zone and doing more miles in a day...
Did Meteor Crater and should have p***ed...
Still pretty remarkable though that it was created by an impact
    $27.00 to look at a big salad bowl. IMG_20260915_144240154_HDR.jpg IMG_20260915_144327748_HDR.jpg IMG_20260915_150247640_HDR.jpg IMG_20260915_150253876_HDR.jpg

Too many one way streets downtown...I thought everyone was being friendly waiving and flashing their headlights...
I guess I was wrong about friendly greetings
