im going to be completely honest.

lloydfest burnt me out on this car again.

it took me almost 7 hours to do a 5 hour drive again because the carbs power valve decided to die and it slowly fouled the plugs with gas meaning it dies if i stopped, then i had to use ether to dry the plugs for it to even try to start, (thanks Bill, i owe you one for letting me keep that).

it just... it needs so much. i need to cut the entire floor pan out minus the trans tunnel, its all trashed.

i need quarters, doors, seals, headers, a transmission, a bell housing, a flywheel, i need to go through the heads on the 428 to cam it, it needs a different carb than the one i got if i cam it. its just... so much

the car is so tired. it has more in it but im just tired of its **** for the time being.

im going to try to gather parts but itll take time.

 

Sometimes a break is needed. It's important to keep the perspective that the Y block has run far, far beyond its service life. You kept it going, but so much is worn out that it's done! Time to end the longevity experiment and regroup. That must have been a stressful ride home. A properly running engine would have made all the difference.

 

Yes, I know how stressful it can be to have issues on the road.

You were blessed though (as were everyone who attended LF4) to make it home safely! Now we can chuckle a bit as it is not every day that the folks at a country club get to see 2 guys push starting an Old Ford across their parking lot! LOL

A little break will help put things in perspective. You’ve persevered where many would have quit. We all love watching and being a part of your adventures. Man o man will you have stories to tell when you get to be an old fart.

Your list of problems with the car or should I say need’s looks like a white board list of things to do.
I’d pull the interior out and take care of the floors first, get experience working with metal where it will not get seen as easily. Seam sealer and under coating can be a great help with aesthetics. If you pull the heads on the 428 you can look at the cylinders and see if they are a candidate for rings and look at the bottom end for bearings, it’s cheaper and easier to do it before you install it than after. Plus look over your suspension and brake’s and determine what is needed and make a plan for going forward. I’ve found that having the car solid mechanically including the flooring will make all the difference in driving an unfinished vehicle, you will have a vehicle that you can trust plus you will know inside and out.

the engine has allegedly been rebuilt recently but who knows. all i know for sure is the 428 part is true. all thats left of the interior really is the seats and "headliner" in terms of what needs removed to patch metal.

the suspension is fine, could do with an upgrade to the swaybar and replacement rear springs but handles good enough.

brakes are also fine mostly, i will need to get new front springs and a different master cylinder if i get the granada front spindles, i should be fine on drums.

 

It helps when you can break what you need to do down to category’s and work on them that way so you can knock them off the list as you go. Little projects are always easier to complete and it’s easy to see that you’re making progress on your ride.

 

The 428 could be run on a stand if it's all together.
I want to add to Dan's post that you have a strong knowledge base and are really good at understanding what's going on in the engine and under the hood.
