There is no amount of money that could encomp*** the amount of friendship, family and knowledge that I have experienced from the HAMB.

I'm sorry the AI vortex has ****ed you in but it sounds like you have a handle on it. I applaud you for keeping politics and other ****ty behavior out of your sites. It's nice to have a refuge. Keep moving forward!

I will always help when I can, because I believe mature adults can keep politics out of our great hobby (for the most part).

I also believe the issues you are having are not so much politically motivated as it is GREED motivated & greed has no political bias!

Tell us what we need to do to help & I am sure the vast majority of members will do what they can to help! This is by FAR the best forum on the internet (as shown by Lloydfest IV just a few days ago) & we don't want to lose it if possible.

Cars aren't the "advertising" hot spot they used to be and older cars are even less.

I've seen this coming for the last 5 yrs, as algorithms slowly take over the net. Not just the AI but even the good Ole computer algorithms. The "adult" side of things have slowly been gaining more and more ground in the last 3 to 5 yrs. I've seen more "adult" themed adverti*****ts in the past 3 years than I'd seen in 10.

As values and morality relax the harder the adverti*****ts have become to the point that advertisers are spending more and more on that avenue and sites that closer relate/resemble who's spending money for FaceTime.

I guess you need to put up some old pin-up girl calenders on the first page lol !!! Seriously though I feel your pain and you have my sympathy and my highest respect !

@Ryan Silly question from a non computer guy. Say I google how to wire a GM single wire alternator. But instead of clicking the AI answers that pop up I scroll down to the eventual auto sites and click on one of those. Does my scrolling help or hurt the AI machine?

I don’t think AI is either evil nor good it’s just technology, I do believe there will be those that use it destructively. I also don’t believe it will destroy the country. I do believe that you have to learn what it is exactly and then use it for what is. It’s a new technology that isn’t going to go away. From what I’ve read AI is the next big economic driver, I don’t doubt it. Learn and adapt or get run over.
Last night my brothers and I were talking about how our nation went from a horse driven society to the automobile. From 1900 to 1913 we went from horses to autos that is very quick. Also there was a lot of change, horse whips went out the window etc. Adapting is easier said than done. Sometimes the fog of war is hard to navigate through. Boss you are an extremely smart and creative person that along with this group you have ***embled can take on anything and persevere.

@Ryan I think I'll log out a couple times a day and then scroll through the HAMB. I'm not opposed to looking at a few ads to bring in a few pennies.

And it wouldn't affect me a bit to pay more for an Alliance membership.
$100 a year is only 27.4¢ per day.
That's mice nuts.

 

Said it in the other thread and I'll say it here. I love being here and have no issues with an ad popping up if it keeps the lights on. There is too much information and entertainment to be had.

 

Don't mind the ads. As long they are automotive related and bring in some coin it's perfectly acceptable. If I see something that interests me I may even click on it. We are all in the same boat. Trying to find a way to bring in some dough is the American Way.

AI is raw and unrefined now. Obtrusive and delivers a lot of mediocre and useless information. In future iterations it will be more dialed in to better results. We gotta just deal with it. Another damn bump in the road of life.

 

You’re not alone in this with AI, I have seen posts from other forum owners who are dealing with AI but haven’t been as open about their experiences. Now I think I understand the problem, basically AI robs you of the traffic you used to get from people searching for answers by compiling the information from your site and then using in its own words.

The AI age has me listening to the song "Freeze Up" by Operation Ivy in my head a lot lately. Crazy how a song written in 1988 by a band that only existed for barely 2 years is still relevant almost 40 years later.

 

I do exactly that: I refuse to click on the AI answer that posts up first and I go down to an actual website to find what I'm looking for. Does it hurt AI? I don't know. But I like to think it helps the living, breathing owners of the other websites get traffic. And that can't hurt.

 

To be honest, the little pop up ad I saw on my phone last week, didn’t bother me a bit.

I am wondering how this will work in the future. If AI threatens or destroys forums like the HAMB were spe******t knowledge is shared because the forum owners lose money like Ryan does, fewer and fewer knowledge will be shared and "produced". The same goes for art, photography, literature, advertising ... the list is endless.
So will humanity someday get stuck because it just is not worth to create anything new?

At this stage, the gears in the technology machine won't be slowing down any time soon, and like they say in the financial world " it's an adjustment", painful as it is.
I don't have a "political" bone in my body (as compared to others), I do however turn to some refreshing views from a wise old man, George Carlin, some of you may have heard of him.
